I will be taking the wife for a 2 week break in September and fancy Spain. I have had a look at some of the advertised places but what is written is not always what you get!
So i am after the knowledge of STW people who have been and had a great time.
I am after the following criteria.
Good Clean Accomodation & good Food
Not too far away from a night on the town
Cross country
Good all day climbs and decents.
Singletrack (but not too technical)I would not like to dent her confidence.
I am NOT after full downhill riding

Cheers.

Basquemtb?.

Based in Hondarribia, not far from San Sebastian.
Not as hot as down south, so you can ride all day.
The best food/drink in Spain.
Beautiful coastline.

We had a great time with Switchbacks in the Sierra Nevada, but, to be honest, going by your criteria, I think it might be a bit much for your mrs. That said, I'm sure a good local guide could find trails to suit.

Accom was simple but fine, no food included.

I'd definately recommend joy riders
been with them twicw
Good Clean Accomodation & good Food - Tick.. amazing accommodation (an old wine distillery). Jacuzzi on the roof, outdoor swimming pool. Free bar

Not too far away from a night on the town - set in a quiet village but not far from cordoba

Cross country - Yes.. definately
Good all day climbs and decents. - another tick
Singletrack (but not too technical)I would not like to dent her confidence. Yep.. loads and loads of different trails for different abilities.

No i don't work for them.. Just think they are worth shouting about

i would second sierra cycling. Just outside malaga ride on arrival and departure days if you wish, great trails and best of all finish the days riding with an ice cream on the beach 😀

A vote for Freeride Spain here. Much more XC than the name suggest, and I'm sure they can tailor rides to suite any ability. Great accommodation, food and guides.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Excellent sunny weather in September, warm enough for a refreshing dip in the sea after the ride. We specialise in great singletrack rides during the day & lively night life on the coast at night.

Does it have to be mainland Spain? Why not try Tenerife where the weather is likely to be better in September 😉

I wasn't going to be so blatant as to stick a link on, but since Alan has I will indulge myself.

Went with Mountain Biking Spain last year, they have a female guide and she went to great lengths to encourage the girl riders and to build their confidence. There was a great choice of trails too.

I'd definately recommend joy riders

+1 - went with them last year and they were quite good. Good xc type riding, but might be a bit far from anywhere for a night out on the town.

Sierracycling pretty much fits your criteria perfectly

good clean accommodation, 50m from the beach at the quiet end of town but just a 10 min stroll to as many bars & restaurants as you like

The riding isn't bad either

CicloMontana is excellent but nowhere suitable for a night on the town nearby. On the other hand I never had enough energy left at the end of the day to be bothered! Be prepared for really good food and coffee stops.
