You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Had my nephew (14 yr) up staying for a few days recently and I gave him an intro to 'local' biking (Mabie, Drumlanrig, Kirro and Glentress). While he rides his hardtail to school he hadn't done much offroad so, naturally, he loved it.
He lives down in Woodspeen, Newbury - are there any trails/woods/areas he could access locally or even a club or group that might provide encouragement to the (not so) wee fella?
There’s a bit of stuff about. Nothing to wild but some decent enough XC stuff. Greenham common and out towards the ridgeway and water ship down
Try Banjo cycles think they used to have a Wednesday night crew
Swinley Summit @ Swinley bike hub.
He's also close to Slanting Hill in hermitage. Always kids playing there.
He could even go to Snelsmore common.
As above, Greenham Common around the old bunkers (aka Starwars rebel base), Newtown forest just south of Greenham Common.
Penwood forest has some nice little sections but difficult to put a loop together.
Snesmore is quite good.
Generally nothing trail centre style but lots of nice fast wooded singletrack. Taken me a while to piece nice bits together.
Banjo’s is a good shout
Banjo don't do mtb rides afaik but may know who to speak to.
Woodspeen is spitting distance to snelsmore common, which is fun to explore. Again, south side of greenham has good trails, and upper buckleberry area and woods around there are nice. It is mainly woodsy XC riding around here, but I like it.
Newbury velo is a new club that seems to cater for different types of riding so might be worth contacting them.

Me too sir.
Newbury Velo member here. There's an active group of off roaders and a weekly Sunday ride. We've also been running kids coaching sessions. I'll post this on the private FB group and see what people recommended.
Thanks all - I will pass the info onto him/parents.
30 minutes down the M4 and you'll have the 'delights' of the woods behind the Nationwide in Swindon 😆 (sorry, couldn't resist)
Loads of nice paths around Bucklebury area.
I think it's all been covered but
Greenham, Snelsmore, Chieveley are fairly flat. Woods by slanting Hill or opposite side of B4494 Leckhampstead for more downhill. The Swinley, Tidworth, 417 bike park further away. I think there is something over by Woodcote as well.
And
Palmer Park Velo do some mountain biking but there is a waiting list to join. Swinley forest do have sessions for advice and training and a new section for skills training
And there is a Sunday MTB ride with Newbury Velo but under 16s have to be accompanied by a family member/friend who is responsible for them.
If he's in Woodspeen, the nearest riding from the door will be Snelsmore. There a bridelway that comes out near the Blackbird pub and goes up to the common. Hopefully this will show the start of it.
B4494 Leckhampstead for more downhill.
Oooh, tell me more please
