Asked this Q in a topic specifically re Lapierre Zesty vs Spicy but thought to try gauge a wider audience for views. Am thinking of getting a Lapierre MTB and noticed they have a high top tube on their frames. Shop in town told me the Spicy medium frame I demoed (they didn't have small available) was a good fit in terms of handle bar reach and extension to pedals however they remained mum on if stand over height was an issue. Basically there is no space to speak of between you know what and the top tube - shouldn't there be clearance?? Am new to MTB but imagine falling onto it is a common injury? 😯 Got a feeling the shop just wanted to shift what they have in stock at the expense of my err toolbox!! Actually heard its not important as the stem is more the culprit from potentially removing me from the gene pool... but not convinced ❓

The rule I always thought of was at least 3" of Gonad clearance!
But with modern long travel suspension, I can see this being quite difficult to achieve.
In reality I used to ride a 21" Trek Liquid affectionately known as "The Gate" it had very little clearance but was a fantastic bike to ride!
I had the same predicament last year spicy or zesty?large or medium?.
Went for large 214 zesty my gonads are about 1 and a bit inches off the top tube try to get last years model for a bargain price spec is more or less the same as this years model!
Invest in some Wide bars and a short stem ,tyre pressures to 40psi!
It's taken me 8 months to be comfortable and now I fly :D.
