Right, I want a fast and light hardtail frame for general riding, duathlons and enduros. I'm between 6'1" and 6'2" and have been looking at the Rock Lobster tig team sl 19" frame on merlin or the On One Slot Dropout Scandal 18" or 20". I'll be getting some Rebas for it and a new set of wheels XT/717.
I love the look of the Rock Lobster and have read good things about the frame but I'm concerned it might be too short on the top tube for me at 23". I've ridden 23" top tube hardtails before but they were of the long forked variety.
The Scandal takes my fancy too and would think the 20" would most probably suit my size better but the slot dropouts with the non replaceable hanger is holding me back a bit.
I'm also tempted by the 29er Scandal but I'd have to go for rigid forks as a set of Reba 29ers is out of my budget.
Decisions decisions... 😕
i have a scandal 29er - i love it.
get the rst m29 fork bout £180 and really quite good. (from on one)
if the mech hanger breaks you can get loads of options of horizontal dropouts hangers. dmr etc.
I would go for a 29er scandal and some On One carbon rigids. I have a 29er with Rebas on it and I migh go to using some Rigid carbon forks. I have had a slot dropout Inbred before and the dropouts are not an issue. Rock lobster have alwasy had short top tubes, the last one I had did. a 29er makes more sense if you are taller and not into jumping or mad riding.
This will be my only mtb (for a while anyway) so not sure about going rigid. What about stuff like the Dyfi? Surely not on a rigid bike?
yeah but Rebas tend to be 80mm travel on 29ers. take sag into it and you have about 60mm travel. Its hardly a core bike with or without.
*hijack*
Are Scandals as comfy as claimed?
Get a 29er scandal and some rigids.
Or classifeids for rebas.
