My old XT M770 cranks have pretty much had it, so I'm after a new crankset.

For a Banshee Prime, which I run 1x11. I ride in the Tweed Valley mostly, so rock strikes, sloppy conditions and crashing are frequent occurrences. The bike also goes with me to the alps and other places such as the Fort Bill downhill track, though I don't hit the massive stuff.

Is the best bet to just go with more Shimano? Have they changed much since M770? Are there other options worth looking at? I see RaceFace have a big range of stuff, but don't know anything about their cranks.

Not bothered about carbon, but interested if anyone has come up with a better system than HT2. Over time the Shimano stuff appears to have been a bit more prone to coming loose more quickly. Also, something a bit resistant to heel rub would be nice.

Could spend up to a couple of hundred if worth it. Any thoughts appreciated.

Cheers Rob.

Anyone have any real world experience of Raceface Aeffect cranks? Liking the idea of RF's mounting system whilst being able to keep using Shimano bottom brackets. I need a new bb anyway, but I like XT bbs and I know that they work.

Have also been looking at RF Turbine, but that'll require going to a 30mm axle so new (probably Hope) bb = spendier option. Plus I'll need the tool. Not sure if this extra money is worth it.

I presume in the real world the difference between 24mm and 30mm axle is not noticeable? Anyone have any thoughts?

I have new m800 xt on one bike (I helitaped them before i fitted them as the black wears off quickly and AEffect on another - both are excellent - the xt being quite a bit lighter if I remember correctly . Absolutely no help there! Sorry

I have aeffects, but on the fatbike so not really the same 😆 Very good though, ideal if you want single ring. (if not, then shimano all teh way tbh)

Also got some Next SLs- difference between their 30 and the 24mm of my old XTRs is noticable in the wallet and in the faster bearing wear but no performance improvement that I can discern

Would highly recommend the affect cranks. 24mm BB + clinch mount is a great combo.

Cheers all. Ordered the aeffects, couldn't justify the extra for more expensive and worse BBs!

What's the recommended BSA 30mm bottom bracket to use with RF cinch cranks? Apparently the RF bottom brackets are rubbish?

What're the benefits/drawbacks of a 30mm crank axle over 24mm?
