I've a sonder Camino frame to build and thought I had a Shimano road ht2 BB in my spares, turns out I have an xt or a hope both from MTBs. Is the only difference the plastic tube width?

I'm assuming I can fit one minus the plastic tube, even if just a stop gap, the plastic tube just offers protection from water and spray to the axle?
Thanks

I had a fancy ceramic threaded FSA BB with Dura ace cranks in my road bike minus the spacer/sleeve. Worked fine. Didn't choose to ride much when wet anyway 😉

Dunno if widths differ or not. But I’ve done reverse and road shimano BB in mtb frame with mtb crank and all ok.

No, the cups are different widths. Road ones are 1mm wider (and why Hope threaded BSA bbs come with a pair of 1mm spacers so that you can use them for mtb or road cranks)

I use a gold saint one in my genesis cdf. It shows my gnar origins to all the gravel bimblers, and ironically the cdf weighs almost as much as my dh bike.

I recently discovered that my Hope cups are different widths and the (metal) sleeve takes up different widths depending on whether it mates with or slides into the DS contra NDS cup.

Offer it up outside/alongside the frame to see what width each of the configurations is.

Ah I have a hope one, so I need to buy 2*1mm spacers, is the internal sleeve good for road and MTB then?

Hmmmmm

For the 3 gravel frames I have had including the current one, the 2 x 1mm spacers were needed with a Hope BB and road chain sets.

For MTB don't you just use the plastic spacers, 1,2,or 3 depending on the frame?

I think my road bike has an old SRAM GPX bottom bracket, but then I think it’s also got a Truvativ MTB crank on it as well (I needed smaller gears for the Alps and it was easier/cheaper to bodge this with old spares that get a bigger cassette/mech).

I'm running:

Ultegra bsa threaded bottom bracket (XT internal spacer) on my Stooge with XT cranks.

Ultegra press fit bottom bracket on my Trek Crockett with GRX cranks.

Ultegra bsa threaded bottom bracket on my Ritchey Logic (road bike) with 105 cranks.

Hope bsa threaded bottom bracket (c/w spacer insert) on my Cotic Soul with Truvativ Stylo cranks.

All with with no issues 🤔

I hate all these standards though 😡

Not looking forward to when my Scalpel bottom bracket wears out as I'm not 100% sure what one it is 😳

And neither is the Cannondale spares folk 😬
