Like many here, we have a few nice bikes so the policies that limit the number or value of bikes don't work for us.

We've been with M&S since pedal cover got silly expensive. Last year there was a 35% premium hike just because the could. Absolutely gob smacked that they've the same again but this time, almost 50%.

So, who else is worth looking at?

Or is it that shoplifting, bike theft, etc.. are now accepted career paths and everyone else has to pay for their salaries?

But yes, v annoying cost increases.

Aviva have been fine for me for several years, bikes over £1000 need declaring to underwriters.

Same here, mega increase. I have been meaning to shop around but not got round to it yet. I suspect they might still be the cheapest though. It's now £731 for home & contents plus bikes up to £6k

My Aviva renewal has shot up, despite no claims, any suggestions gratefully accepted.

My Aviva renewal also up by a large chunk to nearly 1k. Not found any viable alternatives yet. M&S won't cover us, nor will pedal cover. I'm currently trying to find a policy that'll cover up to 1k per bike and splitting the one over that onto a dedicated bike policy.

Wow, that doesn't sound like a particularly difficult proposition.

Have you been burgled repeatedly or do you live in a particularly high-crime area?

No, not burgled, plenty of ncb. Rebuild cost is high for the house. It's a nice area but inner city and not far from less nice areas which I suspect does not help. Not checked the crime rate. I can get quotes for the house and contents at sufficient levels without the bikes easily enough but at the bottom of the comparison site lists there is a bit that shows companies that did not quote. Quite a few entries in that list.

Edit Aviva don't let you requote if they think you have a policy already. Switching the order of the policy holders in the quote engine got around that. To my suprise the quote then was £1250 before I added the bike cover!

Mine was approaching 1.5k this year after a burglary. I feel your pain.

Are insurance companies even remotely trying to justify these hikes or is this just blatant profiteering?

Policy expert for me. Three bikes over £1k specified - wasn’t a huge increase at renewal but that was back in October 2024……

Our renewal (with another provider) is due this month and has a small/10% increase. Thought I'd try M&S for a quote after being away from them for quite a few years: nope, significantly more expensive!

Aviva's good for us: bike-only policy with them and a buildings/contents policy elsewhere to cover everything else except the bikes. £5k limit per bike which I'm just accepting.

Aviva don't offer a bike insurance policy, its a redirect to cycleplan.

Comparing this years and last years renewal docs the the buildings cover that has jumped significantly.

Went to LV this year after a similar price hike, declared bikes all fine, also always had great customer service.
