Looking at entering this year, never done it
before . To get a place in the solo catergy
is it best to take your entry direct to Pats
house?

I don't think solo is the most popular category, so I'd just get yourself in front of a computer as soon after the online entries open as you can and you should be fine.

Not even sure it's sold out the last couple of years. The days of needing to sit by your computer to get an entry are long gone. Definitely not necessary to go to Pat's house, but don't let that stop you.

There were entries available week before last year, it's not 'enduro' so weekend warriors aren't into it anymore!! 😉 😆

If you live relatively close to Pat's house it's worth doing, it's a good laugh and good to meet other riders.

I have a feeling Sleepless is gone never to return given the rise of Enduro which is a shame.

I wonder if this year may be better subscribed on the back of a dry one last year! I suspect some people did 2013 and thought "never again" (despite it not being that wet), whilst a number who did last year will probably be rather more keen to return!

It's the 2012 people who won't be coming back that hits the numbers 😆

Perversely I vowed never to do it again as the weather & conditions will never be as perfect as last year again & it'll only be a case of "not as good as 2014"

^^ Very valid point! I may employ a similar tactic to last year - if it looks amazing weather I'll find a team short a man and rock up on the day!

They're still stuck in the campsite trying to get out.

Please don't mention 2012, I've only just finished my therapy for that.

*shudders*

Ha, just remembered that I did 2012, had completely blocked it from my memory.

We finished 2nd in Open and 4th overall and it was still the most miserable time I've ever had on a bike. When it started raining at the beginning of the 2013 edition I swear that I started to have flashbacks.

Who said Mayhem 2012?

Never have I spent so much time working out how slowly I needed to ride to reduce the number of times I needed to go back out from 2 down to 1! For the record I was successful.

I enjoyed 2012 in a sick way. It was my first ever one and did it single speed solo. I was using mud sharks and all was good(ish). Hated 2013 (single speed again),just got fed up of having a sponsored push.

2012 was my first one and funnily enough we went back in 2013 to try again.
Missed last year due to other commitments which means, I'm sorry to say, that the rain will be back this year as we're going to give it a go again.

The 2014 course was leagues ahead of the 2013 one which, as you say, involved a lot of walking up rediculous hills for most riders. The 2014 lap was actually really fun at speed.

Wiggle aren't sponsoring it this year so apparently this will mean less restrictions on other vendors at the event.

I've liked last two years but it's quite a long way from leeds, and I hate driving. Have kinda already agreed in principle though.

Hmmmm, may reconsider for this year. Get your wellies ready if I do, as I am a rain jinx; my first (and only) Kielder 100 was the epic deluge of 2011.

Yep, 2012 was Eastnor, 13/14 were Gatcombe.

Last year was brilliant fun, good course, perfect weather. If it's like that again it'll be awesome.

I clearly remember sticking my head out of my moist but warim(ish) tent at about 1:00AM as my broken looking team mate hauled himself back to camp.

"How's the course riding?"

"It's not, I probably pushed or carried about 85% of it"

At which point I said something that may have rhymed with 'Duck Sit' and went back to my nest.

At no point have I lost sleep over this decision.

2012 I lost my sense of humour, did 1 lap packed up and went home, really hated it, didn't enjoy 2013 as course was very tough for mortals such as I then loved 2014. Having done 10 mayhems as a team of 4 think I will skip this year as a rider and just spectate if the weather plays ball.

I think the trouble with 2012 was that 2011 was moist, but dried. It was evident 2012 was going to be wet, but throughout they assured everyone the course was weatherproof, they'd removed the worst bits etc. to turn up to exactly the same course as 2011, but with utterly biblical volumes of water sitting on it was a slightly bitter pill to swallow!
