Looking to ride some nice trials in Spain for either a week or a long weekend as part of an organised tour with a guide.
Has anyone here been on such a holiday? Anywhere affordable (i.e. <£500 for a week) that you would recommend?
Cheers.
Switchbacks are cool, and Ciclo are in the same area.
This time of year though you're looking at £500 for flights alone though! And I'm not aware of anywhere that does package hollidays, they all tend to be excluding flights and meals.
Ciclo Montana. But as above - you'd struggle to fit it in for <£500.
Ciclo includes brekkie and evening meals, plus there's normally several large bottles of beer in the fridge.
Kitty for lunch/coffees is paid on a rolling basis and isn't a lot.
They pick you up from the airport, so apart from doing your own flights, it is about as much of a package as possible....
Another happy switchbacks (Bubion) customer here
Ciclo - brilliant outfit and damn cheap for what you get, but their package is £420(?) without flights and at this time of yr flights will be expensive. Plus of course, its REALLY hot in Southern Spain in July/August, in fact i think Ciclo shut down for August because its too hot to ride. Ive been at the end of September & the beginning of November, Sept was just right, November was a bit cool and more chance of rain .
http://bikingandalucia.com/mountain-biking/, the week is 290 GBP (excluding flights and evening meals), http://bikingandalucia.com/mountain-biking/summer-high-altitude-mountain-biking-programme/, summer high altitude trek is 380 GBP, again excluding flights and evening meals.
Went Ciclo at the end of June last year temp was high 20's to mid 30's
I had a great time and was hoping to go back this year but it looks like it might be next year now.
Marco at Ciclo will give you some of the best trails ever, went back this year, felt like going to see old friends
MTB holiday + Spain = Basquemtb.
Same story though. Sort your own flights which will probably be expensive now.
Doug is amazing. We don't bother looking around for holidays now, just keep going back now we've found him.
Was at Ciclo Montana last October. Was a great week, top people. Although I will advise full length shin pads. I always use just knee pads when abroad. But **** me, the bloody spiky, thorny, bushes over there will leave your shins looking like this after one descent.
Tinglingly good fun though
One word: Hot.
Was out with 9 mates a couple of weeks back for 4.5 days with Ciclo Montana. Amazing trails, fantastic hosts (Marco, Jacky and Marie Anne) your made to feel very welcome from the minute you arrive great accommodation set up, evening meals are spot on, beers cheap and it's warm and dry. Did I mention the trails were amazing!!
The groups done different places each year but we're seriously thinking about returning to Ciclo rather than try somewhere new again.
Maybe a little over budget once you factor in flights and insurance, but once out there the average spend in the group was about €100 and that was to cover coffee stops, lunch and most importantly BEER!! Definitely worth the extra few £'s in my opinion.

You could go to Ainsa in the Pyrenees. Don't need a guide as the ridea are marked. They are excellent rides btw.
Only real problem is getting there. Accomodation is fairly cheap there.
