I'm going to be in the vicinity in September. I'm looking for rides that are close by.

I've already plotted a route to Dalby so that I can ride there and go round the trails then come back. I'm also looking at Langdale Forest.

Are there any other routes/areas that I should be looking at please?

There are loads of routes heading across the NYM mate, I'll check my guide books. Sure some locals will pop up with some too.

Cheers. I've got a Vertebrate guide book for the North York Moors, but although there seems to be loads of bridleways and rights of way round there, there aren't many routes in that part of the NYM.

Check out the Lost Lanes books, they're more gravel touring than full on mtb, but feature some lovely riding. Don't have mine with me right now but can check it when i an back home

About 5 years ago I tried the trails behind Wykeham, a fair few fallen trees.

Raincliffe Woods are quite good. When I'm down for meetings / training in Scarborough I'll ride out there.

Couple of quiet lanes / easy gravel rides we very much enjoyed on the tandem

Could easily just choose a stat point closer to you. The pub in Croption might make a very suitable location...

From Snainton, you can take a back road to Allerston and from there, the road north into Dalby. Depending on the types of stuff you want to ride, that area of Dalby is awash with mega off-piste stuff but if thats not what you're after you can continue up that climb all the way to Givendale Head Farm (its a BW) before you can swing a left and pickup the Dalby Red.

Whatever you do though, if you're heading back into Allerston past the camp site at the top of the hill, as soon as you hit the trees, veer left into a trail called Let Loose For Lewis. Its a belter and takes you almost all the way back to the village.

To be fair, being that close to Dalby theres enough of a mix of purpose built (either "new" or old Pace built), built off-piste and just general little BWs and footpaths (nobody seems to care too much at Dalby once you get more than 100m from the visitor centre which is far as the hoards usually go) to keep you amused for a fair while.

Jaimiemcf we sometimes stay up in Burniston, not far from Scalby, is it worth me taking my bike and exploring those woods?

Damn you! The bits of off-piste I took the kids on at the weekend weren't too wet so should be good!
