My boy is ready for his next bike after outgrowing his Islabikes Beinn 20. I want to get him a mountain bike this time but having sat him on the Whyte 403 26’’ wheeled bike we have decided he is not quite ready for that size which leaves 24’’ wheeled bikes, of which there are a few. Kind of narrowed it down to the Canyon Grand Canyon 24 and the latest Frog 62, both have decent specs with a half decent air fork and trigger shifters. The Canyon is perhaps slightly better specced and reduced at present. Anyone got any experience of either bike or can anyone recommend a similar specced bike?

Trevor.

Prefer the canyon to the frog personally. What about the Orbea MX24 Trail?

Or go for the carrera blast re build, check out the past threads.

The 2018 Orbea MX Trail looks good actually now you’ve mentioned it.

Same here for small 9yr old. Short list is Orbea MX24 Trail, Frog MTB 62, Saracen Mantra 2.4.

If you aren’t bothered about suspension, Evans ebay outlet has the excellent Bonaly 24 for £260 this weekend.

Our 10 year old daughter has the Orbea MX Trail and it's a cracking bike. It's quite a step up from her Beinn 20 in size and weight although the Beinn was the small version. Her seat post was fully extended on the Beinn and on the Orbea it's up about 50mm, not quit high enough to be the proper height for peddling but she likes to be able to at least get her toes on the ground when stopped.

Only change I have made was replacing the 70mm stem with a spare 35mm one I had.
