To quote teethgrinder

Avoid accidents by not being there in the first place and not actually moving fast when you do? Bollocks.

Driver's fault full stop. Only hope the driver tries it with a huge truck next time.

Words fail me...

Well done for starting a thread about it.

i think you need the full quote here and context

Definitely go through insurance. Make it as easy for yourself as possible.

And most important, talk with her about how she could have avoided the accident; ie it may be a 25mph hill, but is it safe for HER to do 25mph down it?

This is the key to staying safe in the future.

No point been dead, right?

I think you are in the wrong here both for the point you made that it is somehow her fault someone ignored the rules and then tried to drive off and then even worse you started a thread to criticise someone who mocked you. You dont seem to have got the point of the mockery.
It is not her fault that someone else hit her.

DOUBLE EPIC FAIL

I sense the start of a new STW classic thread if the mods don't stamp on it 🙂

Don't see the point in the second thread, so fail for that.

But the point is valid, if badly put. When I cycle commute, I deliberately go out of my way to avoid a couple of terrible junctions. It's a bit further but I minimise my risk by doing that. Sure, i could go the direct way, and use these junctions properly, only for someone else to screw up and me pay the price. Technically i'd be in the right but I wouldn't feel great about it.

Yes, sounds like the driver is a twunt, particularly for trying to drive off, and i hope they get screwed over for it. But that doesn't make it any less of a reason to ride in a way that manages our risk. In fact - I'd argue that exactly because there are twunts out there who can't be relied upon, we should do everything we can to self-preserve rather than pass that responsibility to them.

I never, ever ride my bike past a junction, or rely on the person at that junction to have seen me and not pull out. Ever. Really. What do I do? I get off and walk to the nearest pelican crossing and get a grown up to accompany me across. FFS.

Words FAIL me too, but by virtue of your own stupidity you have just shortlisted yourself for the most Pointless post probably on the Forum not of the Day / Week.

Congrats on your cutting / pasting attributes and your prowess as self certified Mod,

as self certified Mod,

I think it's more "look at me"

It was a valid point on the original thread( badly received), but I don't know what bringing it up again proves.

Sorry b r, I'd say you were wrong in the original thread. And doubly wrong sticking it in a new one too.

Best you can hope for is that people ignore this thread, you might get away with it then, as long as no-one posts on this one.

The original post wasn't put that well. I was about to comment until I saw your clarification a little further down the page.

I think the OP is trying to point out that avoiding accidents where possible is a good idea.

i.e. anticipating what some idiot might do and avoiding them is better than being completely right but in hospital (or worse).

But the OP could perhaps have phrased it better.

Sorry b r but this is a classic example of you knowing what your words meant but limitations of the medium leaving them open to interpretation. Read back what you wrote with that in my mind and teethgrinders response might seem less stupid.

i thought the 'how to make bikes [temporarily] stealthy' was most worthy this week!

I was voting for which waterproof trousers, I didn't even have the heart to open it as I'd just got back from a ride and had dust on my bike.

Good life lesson here. The next time you think you are better than everyone else, and how stupid everyone else is because they disagree with you, just think back to this thread.

+1 to both sentiments.

(I foolishly replied on the original thread before spotting this pointless meta-thread)

I fail to see why we need a thread to argue about an argument on another thread. It's all a bit meta (and, frankly, unpleasant) for my liking.
