Reading a thread about tyre choice, I very nearly commented that I'd got 5000km out of my gatorskins without issue.
Today I can confirm I've got my first puncture at 5186km. I know this as I strava'd all my commutes this year. At the risk of a mechanical riding in tomorrow, the front (bought at the se time) is still trouble free.
I am impressed.
What miles are you getting before punctures on your road tyres?

Managed 600 miles around the Welsh Valleys without issue, then had two flats and a snapped chain on the same ride!

i put some schwalbe marathons on my bike on new years day, i rode them for 4500 miles, no punctures.
i swapped them for some vittoria cross tyres, which i have rode for 405 miles, no punctures.

so 4905.14 miles without a puncture.

This thread is destined to send all of us to puncture hell!

My Brompton is a year and a half old, or so, without even a sniff of a puncture. Used daily. No idea re miles.

(Marathons, of course.)

Not punctured on my Madone this year, and I don't think I've flatted on the Allez this year, so that's at least 4000 miles.

Since going tubeless 2 years ago not had a flat until Saturday when I blew my rear tyre, 100yards on punctured spare inner tube, used last patch (used the others on kids bikes) then noticed it had two holes. Resulted in a 3 mile walk back to the car.

my schwalbe marathons are approaching 2 years old.

with a daily diet of (lots of) broken glass, and swarf, they must have clocked up around 10,000km

truly astonishing.

15,103 miles Running Conti GP4000s and Specialized Turbo Ultralight Inner's.. one punctune in all that time , about 3 and half years my garmin tells me , and that was big lump of glass that I didn't see till it was too late on a dual carriageway

I shall now get one every ride for the next three years

(not on the one set of tyres I should say)

just shy of 12,000 mostly commuting miles out of a single Gatorskin Hard Shell with no punctures here, was down to carcass for the last 400 miles too and still survived!

Finally binned due to not having any rubber left on the outside rather than punctures, replaced with Bonty Hardcase's and done another 3 thousand so far on them with no punctures either so I think that's pretty good going!

Continental Top Touring 2000 tyres. 2 bikes, 4 tyres:

5,000 km
73 kph top speed (45mph)
0 punctures
0 mechanicals
Average speed about 21 kph (will do maths later)
Average distance about 80 km per riding day.
65 days riding out of 75 ish.

I was down to the belt on my rear tyre by the end, but still no puncture.
They dont make them anymore 🙁

Are people rotating? Fronts and Rears?
If so after what sort of mileage?

I never bother rotating on the commuter, just replace one at a time or in pairs when required.

Definitely being punished for this thread, riding in this morning my Fusion 3 on the front of my Madone warped, literally JRA.

No puncture, but horrendous feedback through the bars, tyre's for the bin!

Is tubeless cheating in this case? Conti X kings run tubeless (cx) have been pretty good since spring I did 1000miles before the rear got a rip the sealant couldn't cope with (later patched and reinflated) then same thing happened to front next day(!), both have been ok for another couple of hundred miles since. Do schwalbe do an offroad version of the marathon? Land cruiser looks about as knobbly as they do (not very) but iirc still don't have the same protection as marathons. Current setup isn't bad but I would prefer something bulletproof for the dark days ahead.

Never managed to puncture a dual ply minion run tubeless. Unfortunately tread doesn't last very long, skids are for kids etc. Normally manage 2 years with one on the back of my gnar bike before tread is smooth lumps rather than knobbles, probably in the region of 600miles so not fantastic in the grand scheme but considering how often I used to flat I think they're fantastic.

Tried a gatorskin quite a few years ago, **** all grip when roads were damp and it punctured well within 1000 miles, unimpressed. Duranos had better grip, still got the odd flat when glass/debris went in the shoulder bypassing the anti-puncture belt.

The front tub on my road bike has done somewhere north of 15,000km. On my 3rd rear tub in this time, 1 worn out and one punctured when virtually worn out.

Tubs might be expensive, but they seem pretty good value. I only used to get a couple of 1000km out of clinchers, Pro Race 4s or Ultremos.

The front one seems to be magic.

Conti Competitions.

The normal Gatorskins are not that great puncture protection wise, they're better than normal tyres but not by much, the Gator Hardshell version on the other hand has been almost indestructible for me (see above), grip still sh1t though...

I think a lot of people have heard the name Gatorskin bandied around as the holy grail of puncture proofing, not picked up on the hardshell bit, bought them expecting miracles, then been disappointed.

The Bonty Hardcases seem to be doing well too, I pulled a nail out of the GF's rear one a while back that had gone in at the tread, hit the puncture band and been deflected out sideways through the sidewall, she spent 10miles wondering what that 'tinking' noise was before we realised it was the end of the nail clipping the brakes!

Marathons (not even the plus) on my commuter - no idea how many miles 12 miles a day over about 2 years, the rear is near enough see through now and it's still never had a new tube or even a patch put in it.

I look forward to one this evening though!

Road cruisers on my commuter - front puncture at 2300 miles, rear at 2515 (typically this was on Tuesday which was my first dark and wet commute for months).

yeah I guess we should all have twigged on to this, especially with the cheapo crap compound/carcass versions of some of the really good tyres that come out.
grip still sh1t though...
I'll continue to avoid then 🙂

no, 'cause i use a marathon 'plus' on the rear - which is where i get (got) most (all) punctures.

on the front it's a standard marathon, which is what i had on the back when i was getting approx 1 flat/month

Ha! It's cursed, I tell thee.

Continental Top Touring 2000 tyres

I used to get lots of miles out of those, too. They were my favourite tyre for many years, on and off road. Sad they stopped making them. I use the infamous Gatorskins for on and off road duties these days and TBH, they're holding up quite well.

*sticks pin in tube to appease the Puncture Demon*

🙁

What size are you after, Stoner? May have a source of some, from dark, dry storage.
