For the past 3 years I have driven to Morzine in my van with one of my twin daughters and my partner.

Me and my daughter have taken our DH bikes and ridden entirely lift assisted. We arent ace, and the DH bikes are a bit of an indulgence. They flatter us, but we arent really riding anything that needs a DH bike. Our Remedy and Cube Stereo 160 would cope with what we ride, and be a lot lighter.

My partner takes her gravel bike and rides on the road and some gravel tracks. I take a road bike and we ride together maybe once or twice in thw fortnight.

This year my other twin daughter is free and is coming with us. She certainly isnt a DHer, but can ride some stuff like the red at Llandegla and would struggle on some of the Marin trail.

So, what do i need to take and ride to keep everyone happy? Me and DH twin are happy to scale it back and leave dh bikes and have more pedal friendly enduro bikes. Non DH twin can use my Stereo for some swoopy reds as i have a burly HT. Can anyone recommend some more pedally stuff other than what we may have been riding?

It may well be our last holiday as a family as one of kids has just left uni and will have a job etc. Also looking for other activities to make it inclusive fun. I know there is a swimming pool at Morzine but ive never been. We are also happy to walk or run in hills.

Its a different holiday to what me and DH twin normally do, so im trying hard to make it a success with everyone having enough of what they love.

Thanks

Ian

I’m driving down on the 20th.

Taking the bikes but only likely riding for three days of a two week stay. Lots to do though, it appears. Wiibit at LesGets. Annecy looks nice for a day out. Rafting as mentioned above. I’m hoping to take in an ice hockey match. Outdoor pool and lake swimming at Montriond.

It’s worth following Source Magazine on Facebook as they have lots of events covered.

Montriond is fantastic - lovely for swimming, but also fishing, SUP/canoes etc. If the weather is good, just hanging out there is glorious. Can also be combined as the end/middle of a days riding (as can Lac des Ecoles in Les Gets), a most wonderful way to refresh.

Lots of threads recently about Morzine for non-DH - have a looky, loads of options, really nice to get away from hordes blasting the bike parks. I only rode my HT this year, was great.

Same for walking, some glorious waterfalls to be visited from some lovely walking routes

The outdoor pool at Morzine looks OK, but we've never been as there seems to be no shade at all, just pools in baking sunshine, and its nut hugger city due to French insistence on men wearing tight swimmies - no baggies allowed. (does not apply in lakes)

There the Museum of Mechanical Music in Les Gets, somehow never quite found the time to do that...

There's some great stuff to do other than the biking (although the last few trips I've just been on the DH biking). When I went with my partner in 2012 we were after a bit more of a varied itinerary as she was not big on hurtling down mountains on burly bikes.

Activities we participated in (all of which were awesome):

White water rafting (company based down the valley below Les Gets all though there are a few locations that offer this). Pitched at the right level to be exciting AND fun for everyone.
Via Ferrata - this was above Avoriaz and was REALLY good. I'm a climber but my partner is not, she still says this is the best thing we did all week. Can be organised through the tourist office in Avoriaz I think.
Zipline - over above Chatel. This takes a bit of time to get over to, but my partner enjoyed it. I wasn't too bothered about this one so didn't have a go.
Swim & SUP in Lac Montriond. SUP rental at the bottom end of the lake. Very beautiful and relaxing.
Swimming up in Avoriaz for an adventure/kids pool. Probably not the best but nice outdoor spa type pool section. Morzine pool is nicer but without the views.

There's loads to go at. My partner also did parasailing above Morzine. She enjoyed it but said it was much more sedate than she was expecting. Exciting at the start and end, relaxed in the middle.

Love Morzine, so much to do.

The leisure centre pool etc is great , can’t recommend it enough for a refresher after a hot day in the saddle , whilst there are signs in the pool stating no baggies I always wear shorts along with most other brits and have never had any problems , either in season or out, the French love their speedos regardless of what they look like.
The spa area can be entertaining at times but it not seeing speedos you need to worry about 😮
