I am off to Morzine in a couple of weeks for the first time

Just wanted anyone's experience of what spares to take as have heard it is super expensive there, and with the pound worth less all the time...

Driving or flying?

Former - take everything you can muster.
Latter - brake pads, rear mech, some tools, tubes (if luddite), cable (edit to add in the above), mech hanger*, spokes, split links

*really important as its the one thing thats always bespoke

What mashr said, though I also brought a bleed kit and a spare rear brake as it was on its way out at the time and wasn't convinced it would last.

If needed you can always order spare stuff from somewhere with a long return period and send it back afterwards if not needed.

Tubeless plugs are also really really useful, as is a small bottle of sealant to go in someone's bag.

Everything I would suggest has been mentioned. I’d also say give your brakes a good clean and bleed and if you’ve had them a while, fit new rotors and pads before you go (bed them in properly before you go) and your brakes will feel so much better.

If you have weight/space a spare tyre too.  Something that will work front or rear like Minion DHF/DHR.

Bike shops are there so generic things like tyres and cables I wouldn't bother.

I broke three spokes and we wore through a couple of brake pads each.
I also took mech hangers and basics of a bleed kit.

My mate just destroyed his front wheel on day1, 2nd run, of his 2 week trip out there.

Take as many spares as you can, if in a group, work out what you can cover each other with

30 euros for a brake bleed. Lad who turned up at our Chalet who was due to stay after us had smashed his rear mech on his first run. 110 euros for a new one (think it was an xt rear mech)
Pretty much as above really.

Take plenty of cash if you like your beer...

Oh and dont go to Alans, he'll tell you your bikes a piece of shit (whatever bike you may have)

thanks for all the replies, some good info

Have just ordered another rear hanger.

As am driving will take as much as possible including tool kits, lube and grease and anything i can find in the shed that could be useful and a lot less expensive

Anything that's unique to the bike; mech hanger, that sort of thing. Mavic spokes if you need them. Change cable before you go and tune the gears. Spare brake pads are an obvious.

If you are driving, I'd recommend taking a spare set of wheels if you have them.

Deffo take a spare mech hanger.

After 9 years of alps riding this year was the first that I have had major issues. Spokes went in my front wheel, and being an odd size (29+ on 150mm/197mm hubs), no shops stocked spokes long enough.

Also check what's in your riding pack for on-the-go fixing stuff. I ripped a big hole in the middle of the tread of a DHR (way to big for an anchovy). Should be no problem, just put in a tyre boot and a tube and off we go.

However, on getting the spares out the following issues occurred:
1) The park tool emergency tire boot was old and had lost all adhesion
2) Glue in puncture repair kit had dried up so couldn't use that to fix boot in place
3) tube had 2 previous repairs that decided to give up when I inflated the tire
4) aforementioned glue issue meant patching tube was a problem

So, as above - make sure your usual emergency kit is also up to the job 🙂

Have to agree with mech hanger but make double sure it's the right one.

Spent the first night of my first trip out there reshaping the wrong hanger with a dremel. Bodged one lasted the rest of the week too!

It's not as hard on tyres as some places but as you'll be mostly going up by chairlifts go for tyres with super thick sidewalls.

Going to the Alps tomorrow, this is my spares list..

Tyre
Tube
Brake pads x 2 sets
Mech Hanger
Snap Links and a few extra chain links
spare rear mech - just because I have one and it doesn't weigh much
shock bushes - again just because I have them and they weigh nothing
Gorilla tape
cable ties
I should also have spokes and a gear cable but I'm not sure I have any and its too late now.

I am also taking my lemonade bottle inflator - again as it weighs nothing

Would take a bit more if I was driving but on the plane this year

Mud tyres!

As a minimum one for the front, and fit a new rear standard tyre before you go so you'll have some good knobs if it rains.

When it really rains there, the clay type dirt is SUPER slick! Good fun with spikes, a nightmare without!

I've got through a full set of brake pads in 2 days out there, so loads of them.

Everything for fork lowers service

Bleed kit

I've also done 2 frames out there and 3 wheels, so maybe just a spare bike? 🙂
