Well thanks to the DH World Cup At Les Gets being cancelled, the lifts are closing the day before we arrive in the second week of September 🙁
We are flying into Geneva, I know Verbier is open till October but after reading about the DH tracks, it sounds like there is really no early intermediate/crap rider riding apart from the blue.
Does anyone know of any lift assisted riding that is within 3hrs of Geneva that would still be open in mid September ?
I did check Sauze d’Oulx and Bardonecchia but they shut on the 23 august.
Chatel was open last September after Morzine closed, brilliant place.
Châtel shuts on the 6th as well.
I wouldn't risk a wasted trip on it, but I'm not sure PDS even know when they open and close their lifts.
For example, we were supposed to be there for Passportes, which was postponed and then cancelled. We discussed just going for the weekend anyway - but PDS said the lifts wouldn't open until the day we were leaving, fair enough. It was a mute point because of quarantine, but on the days the lifts were supposedly going to be closed, a couple of pros I follow on Insta were riding laps of Les Gets Bike Park

They seem pretty definite here unfortunately.
First time we went to Morzine many years ago I knew nothing about the place. Saw some lifts were open so booked us in. Turned out all the lifts were open for the first weekend then only a handful open for the rest of the week. Actually worked out OK. We did some big distance to start with then stuck local. Did a few other things like white water rafting, too. If they are all shut then that would suck, sorry, doesn't really help. Hope you find something.
The Aosta Valley? It's in Northern Italy, but can't be more than a couple of hours from Geneva.
Verbier would be fine, you can use all the walking trails as well as the mtb trails so a lot of variety.
I actually thought they'd extended the season now.
original closing dates from avoriaz were the 1st week in August and they then extended into 1st week I'm September which is the norm

Pro lift opening =/= punter lift opening
aosta/pila for sure.
Pila closes on the 7th of September. La Thuile is amazing but I think it closes early September too
Davos and Lenzerheide will be open until mid October, more than 4hrs drive from Geneva, but worth it! (also easy to get public transport to both)
How about Zermatt? I've never been, but there appears to be some easier stuff there. The scenery is jawdropping and the trains/lifts are open until October.
Oh no gutted last I heard they were extending for at least a month. Not sure where I heard that. Was hoping to get a late long weekend in Sept.
Unfortunately one of the chaps has had to pull out due to finances, so probably going to just go to N. Wales.
But was going to move the flights to Basel and go to Lenzerheide, thanks for the suggestions, hopefully go in ‘21
Lifts not open but a Whiteroommtb back country week.?
Les Orres is open September weekends.

They did - but off the back of the World Cup being cancelled they moved it back to the old date unfortunately.
I just read that Chablais Bike are lobbying to try and re-extend the season, you can join to support

Lots of local businesses joining the fight to keep it extended.
From what I understand, the local lift companies view the summer season as a grudging accommodation. Winter revenue is the real focus and they make very little in summer in comparison and they only agree to the existing summer season through gritted teeth.

There's load of other riding available in Verbier that's not just the park.
They need to start thinking about extending it and attracting more people long term with reduced snow in winter seasons. And that's without thinking about the pandemic and the hit on visitors they're about to face.
Could try finale.

The French often have a odd relationship with business, but they're mad if they do.
The Summer Seasons is I think a week longer than the Winter in normal times, they're busy enough that there's always a constant stream of people using them. I guess the passes are slightly cheaper, but they don't open as many lifts.
Not to mention they've had a few really bad snow years, bad enough that they've opened the bike parks at Christmas more than once. If they want to have a future they need to embrace the summer, they've got a huge head start in terms of summer numbers.
I think French tourists drop off a cliff in terms of visitor numbers after the school holidays and that’s why they usually shut first week of September.
Plus the Mont Blanc Rally takes place at the start of September which forces the closure of the Avoriaz side lifts
go to one of the Coolbus resorts and use their uplift shuttles?

Passes less than half price, but less than half the lifts open, and and looking at the areas that can be considered "lift served" (even with a little flat pedal on a bike that a skiier would find unacceptable) its again less than half.
Morzine/pds usually has a steady stream of riders queing up for each lift (unlike every other french resort in summer) - but then they are at half capacity because of how big the bikes are.
There certainly arent any fleets of excavators going out every night redoing the trails ready for the next day.
On the other hand, customer base is different in the summer, there aren't the hordes of "one blue run - lunch - one blue run - bar" summer riders, which seem to be a large proportion of winter users.
