I am off with a group early July. I fear that my FlareMax might be under biked so I am looking at hiring.
Does anyone have any recommendations about the best bike rental places ?

Thanks

Weeks - TBH the 89 euro to 98 euro led day seems to be the going rate.
And thanks for the heads-up

These guys always have some nice hire bikes. Prices seem to be pretty similar across the town.

We’ve used Torico in the past a few times but. OST of the shops there will rent something half decent. Just pick the bike and price you like and go for it.

Thanks - that is good to know. Most ski / board hire will offer something half decent, so it is good to have that confirmed.
Unlike most moped / motorbike rental companies - who will hire out absolute rubbish and claim you broke it when it goes wrong.

Off the compile a spreadsheet !

We used Startline last year for my wifes bike

Startline Morzine

I thought they were very good, Scottish owned business I think. Nukeproof & Commencal are main brands.

Obvious point but not everywhere was happy to swap over brakes to UK setup. A few were like if we have someone available we will do it, another said it doesn't make much difference.
This was a deal breaker for me,

What's wrong with the Flare Max? Are you planning to crush DH runs on the Pleney all day long?

If not I think you'll be surprised by how tame most of the official trails are.

+1

Decent brakes are more important than anything else!

Just echoing the above really. Plenty of good hire options. We've used a few and never had a bad bike.

As to being underbiked, that'll probably depend on what everyone else is riding and how big you want to go. There's all sorts of tracks and most can be ridden on a trail bike. I'd certainly take yours if that isn't too complicated. You can always rent for a couple of days if you want to rail some big hucks or something.

Waves at OP, I think I'm on the same trip as a tag along.

I imagine the others on the trip will mostly either bring or hire DH bikes.  I'll be on my Bronson.  Based on previous trips riding will mix a bit of everything across PDS, Pleney, Super Morzine, LesGets, Chatel, possibly over to Switzerland for a day, blue & reds with the odd black (the ones without the mandatory huge gaps and drops).

I've only ever ridden a trail bike in Morzine (3x 2 week trips). DH bike just makes getting around the village/between different resorts more of a PITA. Never not ridden anything because I was on a trail bike, personally I've found the trails to be pretty easy in comparison to most UK uplift venues (until you go off-piste or look at the bigger jump lines) - Pleney mainline for example is pretty tame for a black DH (bar 10% and the braking bumps!).

If you're that keen for a bigger bike I'd buy used and sell when you get back, makes much more financial sense IMO.

I agree with above btw.  Last 2 trips with the group I rode my usual bike (Orange 5 then a Bronson v2).  My current ride is a Bronson v3 which is up forked with 170 Lyrics, I’ve been due to go there in both 20&21 which Covid blew out so I’m really looking forward to getting it out there. Given that I’m not seeking out the off piste stuff or the biggest jumps I feel it’s a much better bike for me as nicer to pop and chuck about, plus it has a dropper and pedals well so is much nicer in the transitions.

I noted that between 18&19 the number of single crown forked bikes increased significantly.  Longer travel trip bikes and enduro bikes are so capable these days DH bikes are getting much less needed.

Take the Cotic. Its what you ride and what you are used to. Don't overthink it. Its not like your going to snap the frame...

For the cost of renting a bike for 3 days you can add some big tyres and big brakes / rotors.
