We're off to Morzine in Aug for 7 days. Not all will be riding, but i'd expect at least 5 of them.

Plan is to start over on the Super Morzine side with things like soylent green, tutti frutti etc...
Day 2 i can see being Les Gets

After that though i'd struggling for the where we play.

The lads want crazy launch to the sky type stuff, but me and the other parent are not as crazy as them so somewhere we can integrate both riding styles would be ideal. Techy is OK, but gappy isn't ideal for me and him.

I've been over there 4-5 times now so it's not exactly unknown to me, but linking areas together, well that's not exactly my strong point, so something GPX related would be ideal if possible. My other riding dad loves a bit of GPX embedding, i don't really get into it, but he can do all of that for the team.

Ideally we won't be driving to anywhere to ride, but not completely against the idea.

Something with epic views like some of the PPDS would be appreciated, even if we have to fill them with ice cream on the way. We did 1 trail back in 2014-15 ish that ended at some small lake with ice cream shops and a small town (not montriond, smaller lake) but have no idea at all where that was for example.

Not been for some time but always enjoyed a day over in Chatel but if you’ve been a few times I suspect you already know that area quite well.

We've never done Chatel, unless of course we did it as part of a day on PPDS which is possible, but would have only done the ppds route through Chatel. But it's certainly on the list as it's got the bike park, which i've not really looked into but i'm hoping it's like Leg Gets for example where i can sit at the bottom after a few runs and just send the youngsters up and down while we sit and drink beer and eat food 😀

Almost, the bars and restaurants are at the mid point lifts! Lots of options from a nice bike park green to BIG gaps and steep rocky stuff.

That's sounding ideal then. Me and dad2 will happily do rides, but we won't ride as much as the youngsters that's for sure. So stopping in the middle while they go up and down, yeah sounds ace.
Thanks for the pointer.

You can do a nice loop including chatel. Super morzine / Zore, play about there, then a short XC ride to Avoriaz. XC red trail to Lindarets. Lift up to chatel. Play about in chatel (which is superb as noted) and then you can XC trail and a bit of road to Montriond and then along the river back to Morzine.

I relate to the lads wanting to head for orbit...

I was relieved when they listened to the 'crash out here on day 1 and holiday is ruined' talk, eldest dialed it back a notch, but was still hitting biggest jumps by the end of the holiday.

Edit: to add - and I'm sure having been there before you know this - the French grading and self built trails are all over the shot for consequences...in subsequent trips eldest discovered all sorts of gully jumps and massive consequence trails that are off the marked routes. Caution needed - one of eldest's buddies came up short on a gully jump and fell about 5m down the small cliff. Thankfully bounced.

I'm assuming that you are driving out. A bit left field but you aren't that far from Verbier. Park at the bottom of the mountain. Trail pass from the lift station and a day in the Verbier bowl and surrounding area. The trail map is first class and there is enough for all abilities.

Download the Bike Park and Enduro maps here

There's a few good spots for sessioning while others sit one out. Chatel is great. Great runs, really nice place to hang out and there will be a lot of talented riders there. The runs from avoriaz to Linderettes are pretty good too, and there are bars top and bottom. The Swiss side of Mossettes has lots or sessionable runs too. Also quite a nice place to hang out.

The ppds route can be tweaked to take in more or less depending on energy levels. Just check all lifts are running.

Chatel sounds like exactly what you want.

I always think the 3 runs down from avorias to linderets are underrated. Grade appropriate tech rather than jumps, and a fast lift.

Don’t discount the pleney runs, from what you’ve written here before the black (taking all the chicken lines, which is still fun) is more than within your abilities. Plenty of mental stuff and pro spotting for the boys too.

There'll be a bit of xc stuff going on too, whether the loonies want it or not. Lac Vert we did a few years ago with @stoner @ambrose @merak and some other with an STW random meetup day in Morzine... That was awesome.

Serpentine is great, some big berms in the woods from memory.

From the lift from linderettes you can do Panoramic to the mid station then Serpentine to the bottom. That's a great warm up run with pretty decent scenery. If you fancy a change there's some easy north shore lite near the bottom of serpentine.

Not been for 8.5 years now and missing it hugely - must get out this summer. Can't wait to take the kids someday - if they ever get interested . . .

GR5 is a great trail down from the Swiss border to Linderettes

All ideas over that way are more than good. Does it have an actual name for Youtube ? I've been watching Morzine, Les Gets and Chatel trails today.... I know which trails i'm REALLY not doing lol... But more trails is always good.

Dont forget the trails off the Foilleuse lift in Morgins, assuming it opens this year. There's a nice bakery in the centre of the village and the new 7 Peaks brewery down the road (charging Swiss prices).

I don't think we ever made it to Morgins, we ran out of time on PPDS days to do that loop.

If you are doing Morgins, dont bother riding over. Instead just load up the car and head round that way. Means you get a proper full day riding in over that side without having to bother planning how to get back before the lifts close, or keeping an eye on the weather (also in case the lifts close)
