Anyone else not too chuffed to get a only partial refund for this? It's not a lot of money (£7 deducted from the entry fee to cover their costs) but it's pretty blimmin annoying considering that there was never actually any viable race here- they'd not got insurance in place before they started selling places, and now they've discovered they can't sort it out in time. That's not a race cancellation, that's a "never was a race in the first place". Yeah I'm sure insurance is tricky, that's why you make sure you've got it before you start selling tickets.

I think they can **** off. AIBU,[s] mumsnet[/s] STW? The icing on the cake for me is the email, which instead of apologising says "Our tcs and cs say we can keep the lot, so actually we're being pretty awesome giving you anything!". It's true, their terms do say no refund in the event of cancellation; I don't really care that much, it's still shit when you create a problem and make other people pay for it.

Yes we got the same. Just been having a chat over tea about it. Concensus here is to chalk it up to experience and only try and enter the well established ones. Didnt expect to get anything back.
When it closed for entries earlier this month it was only showing 58 entries so was more or less expecting it not to go ahead.
More disapointed for Abigale who was really looking forward to it on the back of a brilliant PMBA one that was run a couple of weeks ago in Grizedale.

Hmmm... Tough one, I got the same email. I'd imagine they have to get enough entries to cover insurance, sort of chicken and egg really.

At least they've been up front, not like nofuss/SES all last year at the debacle that was the Largs enduro. Extreme muppetry.

I hope the guys from More (I think it's one of the uplift Scotland guys) get another race sorted, the more the better IMO.

Don't know how you paid or much about this event but if you paid on a credit card i'd contact the credit card company and try to do a chargeback for the remaining amount.

Does charge back work when no T&C were broken?
However organiser needs named and shamed for the be glad we are doing something... Perhaps this is a case where the likes of BC should be doing the entries for race organisers.

Not worth the hassle. T and C say they dont have to refund at all. Lessons to be learned on both sides. Would need to see any future events run successfully by them before giving them the benifit of the doubt.
Not alot of money in the grand scheme of things, £7 × 58 entries to keep the credibility.

Not cool! So did they cancel due to low entries or because they couldn't source insurance for the event?

This is the cancellation email:

"Unfortunately today we have received bad news and we are unable to run the event due to issues with insurance, we have spent the past 5 weeks trying to sort this but haven’t be able to get the policy underwritten in time and this has had a knock-on effect in getting the permissions for the race in February. The good news is we can make this happen but just not in time for the start of Feb. We wanted to give you as much notice as possible and are really sorry to let you all down. Refund will be issued to all entrants."

Hi all just want to say uplift Scotland were In no way involved with this race and the gent in question is a sub contractor they sometimes use.

Cheers.

I thought You couldn't use BC's entry system unless they are insuring your event, and as they don't insure enduro's then you're stuck.

I can see both sides to this TBH. I understand your frustration NW as they released tickets without everything being in place and sorted for the race. But thinking with a clear head (well just one glass of wine), its a lot of money for an organiser to put up in advance - I mean not just the insurance, the on site facilities (toilets, carparking), the hire of venue, the building of tracks, hire of medics. There will be risks taken and it looks like they have taken the insurance as a given.
Maybe once the organiser has some experience and money in the bank it can be avoided, but you got to start somewhere.

Have the think about it tomorrow. You are getting the majority of your payment back.

Yes, BC can't be used for enduro events. Be interesting to find out why they had issues with insurance. All the other organiser seen to be ok (without BC)

I too, was a bit miffed at first with the £7 for admin, although I had a refund for a race a couple of years ago and I think it was around the same amount but it seemed to matter less as the initial race fee was a lot more expensive.
There was a gap to be filled with the disbandment of IMB recently who ran the same style of event with great success so you have to commend the lad for trying although I don't think the word had been spread far and wide enough in the first instance to gather enough support.
Insurance is a minefield just now and I'm not surprised it's tricky to organise for an event on DH trails in the dark.
To sum up I'd enter again without hesitation as I thoroughly enjoyed three day/night similar races in the past at Inners.

Bit miffed about this too. I'd entered the Largs enduro also and lost a fiver to admin, now 7 quid to this one.
