You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
E-bike ride shows the same calories burned as a normal ride when you change between the two
Obviously I'm burning less
Anything in the settings?
What do you record with, and do you use a HRM?

Only a phone and no, so whilst I know it's not accurate, it's a rough guide though
unless you have a power meter, you may as well pick a number out of thin air at random

Without HRM or power it has nothing to work on. It doesn't know how much you are putting in and how much the motor is putting in.
Yeah fair comment, I'll stop being bothered about it
Yeah ignore it, I think it uses estimated power, speed etc - if you don't have a HRM or power meter it's basically pulling figures out of the air.
I use a HRM with a my Garmin and the calories are identical on Strava so it seems to pass them through, the garmin uses heart rate so is fairly* accurate
*As in 10% or so.
Does your ebike not have a display that will allow you to output the ride data? Mine will sync with Komoot and also has an "Export to Strava" option in the online portal it syncs to.
Strava now not only ignores stopped time in the overview to produce your "average speed," it also ignores stopped time in the analysis graph.
Strava... Re-writing physics one day at a time! 😆
Have you logged each bike on Strava with its weight so you can select it from the drop down on each activity? (I don't know if that will fix it but it's worth a go.
I've turned "Heart-Related Data" off in my "Settings" > "Data Permissions"
Isn’t this just a matter of setting the correct perceived effort. I’ve never checked but I think that the calories take this into account
PS my first bike computer removed stopped time in average speed.
That’s not changing the rules of physics just a different piece of data
No changing perceived exertion doesn’t change calories.

I think sensibly, segments take account of stopped time? But I'd be curious as to how short/hard an effort it needs to be before stops are actually beneficial to average speed.
I reckon over a three hour ride there's probably not much to be gained from a 20 minute coffee stop in the middle (well, apart from the caffeine and cake intake obvs.) in fact I usually feel a bit crap for the first 5 minutes as I get going again so it probably has a negative affect on average speed even if the 'stop' isn't included.
I didn’t think stop time is removed in segments. I think it’s just total time for your ride
Maybe its a roadie & runner vs MTB thing, but I think it makes eminent sense to remove stopped time from average speed (excluding segments, obviously, you can't be taking a rest in the middle of those).
Stopped time isn't removed from segments. And I think you can change a setting so that average speed is calculated using elapsed rather than moving time.
Pretty sure Strava removes stops from average speed, we normally stop for 30mins on a 100km road ride, so the stop would decimate the average speed!
Strava includes total elapsed times for segments.
It takes out stopped time and uses moving time to calculate average speed. for the overall ride.
However, I have seen somewhere that if you classify your ride as a Race it uses Elapsed time for the average speed.
I just changed one of my recent rides to a "race" but it still seemed to use moving time to calculate average speed.... so don't know about this "race" calculation.
I just changed a run I did yesterday to "race". It decreased my pace accordingly (I stopped at gates and for water).

I wonder if it never changed mine as it was classified as a MTB Ride
Hmm. I just changed a ride to Race. It changed Elapsed Time but not Average Speed. That doesn't seem right. It was only 10 minutes stopped in 2.5 hrs though.
Not experimented (not sure how you would to be honest - comparing similar rides doen in similar times but different conditions maybe) but does the estimated power (or calories used) take the wind conditions and ride direction into account in its estimate - I'm guessing not.
tbh I see most of this estimated data as a way for them to fill in some metrics and make it look like you are gaining some insight - i.e. a marketing tool rather than a meaningful training tool. If you care that much you'd have a HR strap on and/or invest in a power meter.
Yeah, without (at least) HR data it's all pretty vague
Came here expecting grumbles about them making the crappy 3D map the default, with no way to undefault it. And it always seems to take two edits to change it.
My old garmin used to give a moving average and overall average speed. Some days with nice views and nice cake the overall average was remarkably low.

Non-premium here so I get the standard map.
I rode with someone that would tear up to junctions and traffic lights and then screech to a halt, in order that his moving speed stayed higher for longer, whereas I'd ride up to lights but gradually slow in order that they hopefully change so I wouldn't have to unclip. He swore this made a difference overall to his average speed.

It seems to be doing that just for activities recorded as mountain biking. Normal riding gets the old map.
Also looks like they havent updated the year to date progress to record mountain biking.
On the subject of moving time versus elapsed time... A while back Strava said
"Strava considers a point "not moving" if your speed is less than 0.3 meters/sec (0.67 mph), but we don't start accumulating resting time unless you're "not moving" for at least 15 seconds."
This particularly applies to auto stop pausing. So lots of short traffic light stops may not count as stopped time.
Whether this is how Strava does it like that now I don't know.
He swore this made a difference overall to his average speed.
I can't imagine a life with so little else to occupy me that this sort of thing would matter.
Anybody else not seeing their weekly and annual goal mileage updated? Thought it was due to now being multiple variants of "ride". But no, it's showing this week's rides but total is zero. Set to Private so that might be it I guess, but that's not been an issue in the past.
