Hi!

I've been searching and have seen plenty of threads on similar problems but cant find an answer to mine, soooo...

Sorry if this is an 'easy' one, but does anyone know if I can fit a 36T XT middle ring onto an SLX triple? So, I'll be going from a 32T SLX middle ring to a 36T XT middle ring on my existing SLX chainset. I'm also going to fit a blackspire C4 bash in place of the big ring and stinger chain device for the record!

Thanks for any advice in advance y'all

I did exactly the opposite (36T SLX onto an XT chainset) so I can't see why it wouldn't work. Only thing to look out for is that you might need to get longer chainring bolts when you swap the outer ring for a bash.

That depends on the bashring, and you might find that the bash comes with the bolts that it needs - e13 ones do.

As I'm going for a cheap-ass Blackspire bash I doubt it'll have bolts, but you never know I guess. I'll see what turns up and take it from there, I'm in no rush!

Thanks for your help peeps!

Pretty sure you can, but there might be a tiny bit of filing needed on the chainring, as some of them are slightly shaped.

It'll fit.

Your frame is the only unknown.

SantaCruz Superlites did not take to anything over 34T a while ago, so just check the chainstay clearance.

I put a 36t chainring on my XT chainset and used a Blackspire C4 on my Heckler build. The guard did have the replacement bolts.

Just a small point, but the XT M761/M771 36T middles are designed to work with a 26T granny, whereas the M665 SLX 36T middle is designed to work with a 22T granny. So, if you're keeping the 22T granny (which it sounds like you are), you'll get smoother shifting by using the SLX one rather than the XT one. What exactly the differences are, and how this improves shifting, is a bit difficult to explain in words (though I can try if you're interested), but much easier to appreciate when you have one of each in front of you!

Paul, its a 2012 Titus El Guapo, I've had a damn good look and I'm pretty sure the 36T ring will fit without fouling any nice frame-related bits.

perth yes you're right, I'm keeping the SLX 22T granny. I have the XT ring now, so its gonna be a case of fitting it and fiddling around with mech position/settings etc. to get the best shifting performance I can

Thanks again peeps for the help

Fair enuff! But if you find you're getting chain crunching upshifts from the 22 to 36, or chain dropping off the granny onto the bottom bracket shell on the downshift (both issues of a middle ring mismatched to the granny, nowt to do with front mech), then try the SLX M665 36T instead...
