I think it was Douglas Adams - anyway I like the idea that we should give obscure words a bit of an airing from time to time. I have little chance to do this, the emphasis where I work is on combining both brevity and clarity (more of a skill than you would think)

Methinks that the fact that the word the author chose to use turned out to be a real one was more due to good luck than to good wordiferousness on their part.
