I did a couple of laps of Moors Valley blue trail today with my girlfriend and was pretty pleased to say I didn't hold anyone up. I found it no more or less effort than usual but found I was flying down some of the sections; did the whole thing a bit quicker than usual. I know its a family type trail but its been great for getting my confidence up. Not only that but every cyclist we met was friendly and courteous and either got quickly out of our way or wasn't upset when we held them up whilst trying to get to a good passing place! Really nice day out.
Are there any other trails in the area of a similar easiness for a one legged wobbly to build confidence please? I'm near Shaftesbury.
Thanks all, Jon.
go back after the visitor centre has shut - "empty" (relatively anyway) trail so you get to go a bit faster without pressure or holdups (best as a pair, in case you come off and get eaten by the Watchmoor Beast). Don't really need lights in the summer early evenings, though later rides are quieter and a bit more fun IMO

This.
I'm pretty local (about 15/20 mins away)
I like to go and do 3 laps - one in the daylight, one as it’s getting dusky and then a night lap! Night laps around there are great fun.
I usually park up at ferndown golf course and pedal in (about a 15min ride)

Symondsbury has an XC loop but it's a bit wider in general than Moors Valley from memory.
Otherwise maybe Wareham has some similar bits.
I've done some night time stuff there which I really enjoyed (I don't need much excuse to buy gadgets and a big mack off lamp for my bars is a pretty good gadget). The best part of that being I didn't see another soul!
Thanks for the tips all, I'll have a look into those leads, much appreciated.
I was up there for the first time in weeks yesterday evening. What is going on with all the Strava lines?!! It is getting bloody ridiculous. Why take a fun wiggly albeit not very technical trail and try and make it as straight as possible? I don't get it.
Anyway, there are some bits up in Ringwood Forest and some more in Wareham but it can bit quite hard to find. There is a shit ton of XC around though and the Purbecks are the best place around here to ride.
Ok, again thats a good lead. I find the flatter stuff easier as my power delivery with the false leg is a little inconsistent. The trails at Moors Valley suit me as there isn't any climbing to speak of.
I think there are cycle trails at Avon Heath Country Park too but I have never been so can't comment on what they are like.
If you are looking for flatish rides there is loads of scope in the New Forest starting from Burley. Mostly easy double track though rather than wiggly singletrack and what climbing there is is usually longer and gentle.
There is quite a bit out at Cranborne Chase but the only ride I have done there was very hilly so I don't know how suitable it would be but I am sure some of the other locals could provide better routes for you.
Thank you. So I'm looking for the holy grail of wiggly flat single-track! I'll just keep building my strength and try and be more diverse about the routes I take in future. Just got to build the confidence.
I haven't been yet but I think there is a new 5k family orientated walking / cycling trail through the grounds of Kingston Lacy.
The website says its free for National Trust members, but non members have to pay the usual entrance fee. Now I'm not suggesting anybody should skip the whole £15 entrance fee business, but I did happen to notice the new trail passes right next to the drove road off the Badbury Rings road and is only separated by a low wooden gate. 😉
The Sika trail in Wareham is pretty flat. The main route is mostly wide firetrack, however there are quite a few wiggly bits that divert off to be explored.
Kingston Lacy and Wareham, those both sound worth investigating, thank you
