Looking to chop in my road bike for a cx bike, not for racing but to make my commutes a bit more enjoyable on a nice evening, and because I've had enough of ploughing Hampshire chalk through winter.

Looking for disc only
Not fussed about rack mounts etc as I don't commute with a bag
Suitable for 6'4"ish and around 115kg
Cheap ish ( under £400) for frameset ideally.

Have seen a cdf frame for 200 ish new, and seen that the cotic x is 350 with forks (although cy said on the phone to me that the 58 won't fit me 🙁 )

Are there others out there?

Not sure if you can get it as a frameset only but I'm liking my Specialized Crux Disc

Isn't CY your height? He rides a 58cm, still i expect he knows best! 6ft 2" on a 58cm X here

Well that's what I thought, unless I caught him on a non chatty day that's what he said to me. Gotta admit I was quite dissapointed as the cotic was a winner at that point and actually the conversation was the reason I started the thread.

Don't buy on a hunch, especially being fairly tall. Try one. Sizes mean a lot less the further outside the percentile of design that you are.

If I listened to the majority of the little people, I wouldn't be able to ride my 72cm rod bike, despite it being very comfortable for me.

Just had a peek at the prolite. Very nice but I suspect once a pair of disc forks are added it'll lift it away from affordable, the kinesis frames are lush just again outside what is currently a max budget.

The tripster is another frameset I like but again pricey, the Planet X uncle John is the cheapest I've found however the colours are not working for me (possible re paint still makes it cheap)

This was supposed to be a 'treat' after coming back from a minor but frustrating to cycling injury but it does appear that complete bikes offer better value by a long way.

Not quite CX, and assuming you can actually find one ... but maybe a pre-loved Peregrine. You'll have a huge amount of build options on that frame.

Mine is easily the most versatile bike I've ever owned ... (and not for sale).
