Considering swapping the drops on my CX bike for flats . I've got bars and a Stem , I've been told I can't use MTB shifters is that right ? Is it to do with the front and rear mechs working differently to an MTB ? Also Clark's do a ridiculously cheap pair of hydraulic discs , is it M1 ? Are they any good ?
Front mech pull ratios are different but rears should be same. If you have shifters frint mechs should be cheap enough as everyone's gone 1 x .
Clarks M2's get compared to the Alivios in terms of stopping power and reliability which by all accounts is pretty good and probably plenty enough for skinny CX tyres. Less than £40 set too I think.
So if I don't have shifters and want to use the existing mech I'll need 2 odd shifters ? What am looking for on the front ?
You can buy road-bike flat bar shifters (Tiagra, Sora etc). MTB ones OK up to 9 speed only, except probs the front but that's only relevant if a triple.
The bike will be 3cm shorter ish than one designed for flats.
