I'm currently running Mono Mini's on my 456, but I have an M4 which is not in use. The M4 is a bit older, but I think they're both open, so compatible.
Will I get any braking advantage by swapping the Mini for the M4?
I'm no expert but I'm guessing yes. Went from elixirs (different make I am aware) to m4s and noticed a good bit more power..
You'll feel the difference mate. Both ate ace brakes though... Stick with Hope, I've tried the rest and none of them compare if you like feel...
Good luck.
I never managed to get the M4 set up very well, but I think the forks were a bit off, so it got stuck in the cupboard. Think I'll chuck it on the front and see what happens.
Make sure you align it using the marks on the back of the caliper rather than using the 'pull the lever and tighten where it sits' method. This never seems to work on the M4, probably on account of it being 4 cylinder.
I have 2 M4's and once aligned properly are absolutely trouble free - almost fit and forget. Proper Hope sintered pads last for an age too.
Thanks gingerss, I'll give that a try.
There are vids on the hope site for setting them up - well worth following
I swear by my older M4s (2-piece silver calipers). Simple to service, simple to rebuild... and have just gone on, and on, and on.
A stash of spacers is essential for setting up (some spacers go down to ultra-thin 0.2mm or something?)
currently running a mono mini on the front and m4 on the back and have been for several years they have never failed me and a yearly service sees them go on and on and on
would like a bit more adjustability with the levers and bite point but cant really justify buying the new tech brakes as the monos have never not done the job
enduro-aid , why that way round? just because?
