Afternoon all

After this weeks indoor shenanigans, normal service is resumed this week. As will the rain, no doubt!

Next Mondays jaunt will be a good old fashioned doss about around Holcombe Hill. It'll be taking in some of the downhills from our last visit, but some new stuff too, including the Interstellar Sheep Trail, which you haven't done before. Finishing with the descent through Redidsher Woods to the pub

As Harry has forsaken us for Acid Yoga, I thought we could start a bit earlier. 7.45 suit everyone? From the Hare & Hounds in Holcombe (400 Bolton Rd W, Bury, Lancashire BL0 9RY). Which has a mahooooosive array of ales for when we've finished

My physio says I can ease myself back onto the bike, so I may be in.

I'm on a pointless 3 day training course in London next week that my bosses have decided I should go on so I'm out. Have fun in the rain.

We might struggle to make an earlier time (that's assuming we can make it over anyway).
Why aren't you still at work until 7pm every night like normal people then?

We'll stick to 8.15 then Chipps. As long as we make it back before last orders eh?

The knee seems to be on the mend. I should be back for the December 8th Songs of Praise Special.

In the summer, when it's dry and the wind is on your side, Interstellar is the fastest trail around.

December not so much, and you run into a big when it levels off. Still good fun tho as always. Ace art work btw.

Bit travelly for me, is the 8th of December going to be in the spiritual homeland?

Have fun. Cleaned and lubed the bike yesterday before putting it away until I can walk without a limp. 😕

Arsebiscuits.

Have a blast.

We should be there. Assuming I can find two bikes that work. How tandem-friendly is it? 🙂

Getting a tandem down the Finger Chute would be [s]suicidal[/s] interesting, to say the least. JJ. - surely the whole slippery slidey sidewaysness of the interstellar just adds to the fun? 😀

I'm out - too many work-relating gubbins that need sorting. Have fun!

Don't worry, I've found some normal bikes.
Too much proper work, Jason? Or are you turning on the illuminations in Wigan?

Well I've just sussed out why people are dropping out. It's the Turner Prize on 4 tonight, isn't it? Can't believe I'm missing it. Video installation art is definitely the new mark-making

Buggered up my timinga tonight, didn't finish messing about in the mud round Prestwich till 8ish.

My mate killed a rabbit with his bike though, well killed it with the large stick, but the bike did irreparable damage first.

You missed a truly quagmirish war of attrition! Which may or may not have included me getting everyone lost within 2 miles of my own house. It was more than a little misty up there tonight. And it's somewhat difficult to navigate on the moors in the mist. That's my story, and I'm sticking with it! So there!

I nearly ran a badger over on the way home too. Must be a night for suicidal animals. They're big buggers, aren't they? Reckon it would have totalled my front wheel if I'd have hit it!

I'm sure we're still all out there, lost on the moors...

Great fun ride tonight. A truly pointless exercise in bike erosion. Just how it should be 🙂

what was the route?

There was no route. Just a line of lost mountain bikers fanning out and finger tip searching the moors for a path. With the black mist closing down behind them. And unexpected pools of headset-deep mud ahead.

JJ - 'Route' would definitely be flattering my navigation 'skills'. It was all going well. Up to the Tower via the cobbles, down the finger chute, back up, Moor Road to Robin Hoods Well, up the boggy slog to the top of Bull Hill, and then it all went wrong. Due to visibility now consisting of having 1000 lumens bounced straight back in your face off the mist. I managed to steer us off the trail that petered out into a bog, where we then attempted to get through conditions reminiscent of world war 1 trench warfare, to finish on Reddisher Woods

I think it can best be described as character building. I rode that route just over a week ago, and I couldn't believe how much conditions had deteriorated. I don't think that lots going to rideable again until things start to freeze. Heres hoping for a cold snap!

I've started to pay attention to these now that I'm moving into the area. One of the things I was most looking forward to was not having to loose every year to the Chilterns in the annual "who can put up with the thigh deep mud and slurry for the longest" competition.

nick - you just change your routes in winter. I thought we'd get away with the moors last night. Bad call on my behalf. Although it was a laugh. There are plenty of alternatives. Lee quarry was suggested as the next ride as it is made up entirely of big pointy rocks, and stone slabs, and its only the other side of the valley from where we were last night. Theres plenty of other options. The moors are out of bounds for a few months now realistically

Where you moving too fella? Are you going to be joining us for Monday night silliness?

Binners, I think probably either Hebden Bridge or Tod in the new year. If I could tag along at the back, that would be ace, thanks. 😀

yeah, like i said it was an abomination up there on sunday morning. as bad as ive known it. trouble was it was sunny so loads of foot warriors were mooching up all the chutes off the front of the hill too. disaster of a ride.

Phillips Park would be nice - would be good to get to know some of the 'alternative' riding up there

NickC - tag along at the back? Ringer Alert 🙂 It can't be as bad as the Chilterns Nick. I'm on my 7th winter away from Watlington-twinned-with-flanders and it still makes me twitch just thinking about it. Good luck with the move... sorry have your thread back...
