Next week's adventure will be from the Whitehouse, a pub we often ride past, but rarely go in. A choice of routes is on offer, either pan flat or stupidly hilly, we can take a vote on the night, or feel free to lobby here 🙂

Who's partaking tonight then? Looks like we could be racing an advancing weather front. Fortunately the route I have planned is rather short 🙂

Well actually there are two possible routes.

1. Around 16-17kms which is completely flat.
2. About 10kms with about 300m of climbing.

Route 1 is on the top of the moor, so dependent on decent weather. Route 2 is basically one big (and I mean big) descent, followed by a climb back up, with a bit of flat stuff at the end.

Take your pick.

Whats the weather front then?

The one on the forecast. Fortunately it doesn't have a name. I'm confident it'll be ok, the main front's not due to blow in til towards midnight so we should be done before it arrives.

I'll be there, think Billy's coming again too. Saw the forecast last night, it'll either be lovely, dry and frozen, or we'll be riding in a blizzard...

In. I vote flat because I don't like ending rides on a climb.

I might.
It'll be my first MNPR and I'm worried you will all be quick.
I'll also have to bail out after the ride as I'm in a fast day (5:2 diet, not riding speed) .

Both routes finish on a nice flowy downhill bit of singletrack, it's just not so downhill that the up part counts as a climb. 🙂

I'm trying to reconcile 90 mins of driving for 17km of flat and no proper downhills 😀

Where has this reputation come from? 🙂

Seriously don't worry about it. We're all pretty much classic weekend-warrior standard. Some are quicker than others on the ups or downs, but we always wait for everyone* no matter how slow.

*Apart from when we go to Prestwich, where it's every man for himself.

I should have known this would happen! I'm leaning towards the non-flat route as the descent is brilliant, it's shorter, and the weather will probably make it necessary. The flat route will be much better in summer when it's properly dry.

Rockhopper70, you won't be slower than me, trust me. As Daz says they always wait for everyone.

We'll take a vote at 8.10. As long as it's not p*ssing it down by then. Trust me, if the weather's bad you don't want to be up on top of the moor for the best part of 2 hours.

Bugger! I realised today that I can't ride tonight, because I've got a thing in Manchester.

The descent Daz found is one of the best I've seen in Calderdale. We spent the last four days caning it 😀

OK fine I'll ride up a hill at the end if I have to. It'd better be good, mind...

Cheers lads. 7 was not a bad turnout given the weather. Just about got away with it. The snow didn't turn to rain til we were in the pub 🙂

We didn't do White Holme Drain, but I did it last Thursday and it was ok. A bit sticky in places still but mostly dry. Raining again now though so it'll be back to a slimy bog. Avoid until the next dry period I reckon. it needs at least a whole week of dry weather to dry out when it's been wet.
