Rostron Arms, Edenfield BL0 0JZ
8:15 Blast Off
Bring money for beer and crisps.

Binners assures us that the drop into Owd Betts will be drier than a buzzard’s gooch.

Yes I should be there. I don't like to miss the opportunity of throwing myself over the bars or snapping a chain on Michaels wifes lane.

As for the Coal road climb, well thats a joy too!

Snapping things seems to be popular on this route. Frames, chains, rear mechs, Russ's thumb.... 😀

From Wikipedia:

Another popular walk is Dearden Clough to 'Plunge' - the ruined site of Plunge Mill, where there is an imposing pit wheel housing for a waterwheel. One approach to the Clough is from Michael Wife Lane, named after Mary Nuttall, wife of Michael Nuttall, who was fined in 1618 for not maintaining the road and, finally, put in the stocks in 1624 for still not carrying out this work.

So presumably since 1624 it has been a tradition to make the road as ill-kept as possible!

I turned up last Monday, but a delay on M60 at Stockport meant I saw you cycle off as I arrived late. Serves me right for living on the wrong side of town. Up for tonight, as long as you don't mind a slow tail gunner? Will bring inner tubes and beer tokens.

At the risk of committing myself before the weather clears itself up, I'm in. Looking forward to a bone dry and dusty descent of Owd Betts, and someone showing me the proper place where it starts after my last farcical attempt to find it.

You'll have the usual company at the back G. I'll be leading from the rear tonight, as usual

Legs are feeling it a bit from yesterday and its raining. All suggests that i cant be bothered tonight but i think i will probably be there.

There is going to be quite some competition at the back tonight! If you dont anticipate being at the back then wear something warm!

Looks like you can borrow mine if you like Dunc.

Daz (not the one already in the pub) will be your guide this evening. I've got an illustration to finish by tomorrow morning, and I'm nowhere near. If I can get it sorted I'll nip up to the pub later

Did anyone get a picture of the turbines in the clouds?

Next week... low flying in Prestwich.

Tony took one - I will get it and share it. Daz took a good one of riders in the mist. It's on strava and hopefully he will put it on here.

Another good ride and rewarding for those not deterred by the earlier deluge!
