I'm still on English bank holidays, so off on Monday while everyone else is at work.

Considering doing a descent of Ben Donich (which I've been promising myself for months).

It's a fairly easy ascent for a big hill (mostly pushing I suspect, but starts at Rest and Be Thankful, so only about 500m of ascent) and it definitely looked ridable last time I was up in April.

I'm crap and will be doing it on a HT, so you'll at least have some amusement if nothing else.

Off on Monday, have hardtail and am also crap. Cycled around Ben Donich a few times and walked up it a couple of times but never considered it rideable! What route? Straight up from the Rest?

Yeah, straight up from the wee FC car park 🙂

I did a summit camp up there in April and was carrying a lot of kit, did it in the snow and still found the ascent pretty easy, which is why I thought it wouldn't be too bad getting a bike up there.

There's clearly a few sections which might be a bit tricky to come down, but the top 1/3 and bottom 1/3 in particular should be a blast!

From memory, the middle part would be the most problematic.

I'll have a dig around online and see if anyone has ridden it. I hope I'm not looking back on it with rose tinted specs, but I do remember thinking that it would make a good (if a little technical) descent on the bike.

Seem to recall a bit of scrambling and deep rock fissures but there is a path of sorts? Will have a look online at Corbett info for the obvious route.

Aye, there's a wee bit of a step, but it's a doddle.

The scars alongside the path are the only thing concerning me, but there was a decent gap between the path and the gaps from memory 🙂

It all adds to the character 😉

Munromagic has some info. Looks doable as a hike a bike. May be best with flats and boots rather than cleated shoes. Quite tempted....

There's a few pics of the path and ridge on my blog, Ben Donich, plus a decent view of the step that needs to be scrambled down. Should be straight forward - one climbs down and the other passes the bikes.

downshep, been keeping on the forecast myself, looks like it's going to be horrific!

Might be best saving this one for a dry/non windy day, not sure I fancy the idea of slipping the whole way up a muddy munro trying to drag a bike up with me!

Cheers, Cferg 🙂
