So my Monarch is going to need a service and some parts replacing, the climb lever no longer works - not that I care for climb levers but I suspect something has gone fairly wrong. It spikes a lot as well.

My options are

1) Service and parts replacement - circa 120 quid - which I can do now
2) Wait a month or two, ride it as it is and get myself a coil X2 or Float X2.
3) Kage RC replacement from Germany - circa 150 quid. Spend the money saved on coke, hookers, riding etc.

I'm mightily tempted by the Kage - they seem a complete steal - does anyone have any experience with them?

I have a Kage, was an experiment on my Nomad - got it pretty cheap on Pinkbike so stuck it on instead of my Monarch plus.
It's pretty good, similar to the monarch in ways, but nice and sensitive, the initial stroke is really nice in comparison. Not put a huge amount of miles on it yet, but got the spring weight sorted - 550lbs (had to buy this from Jenson USA) and I run the compression quite far so it pedals pretty well too.
I like how it's very much fit and forget.
I would go for it if your bike suspension lends itself to coil.

That said, if you're a tinkerer the Float X2 looks to be the one.

Hmmmmm. Better low speed control than the monarch and any more control through rock gardens than a non piggy back type?

Sorry, it's on instead of a Monarch Plus.
Haven't used a none-piggy back shock on this bike so not sure, can't be much different though? On the whole it's pretty similar to the Monarch plus, nicer initial and better at repeated hits, though I haven't had long on it to be fair - few trails and one uplift at Revs, but I like it so far.

The RT doesn't have shimmed high speed rebound, just ported or something.

It's good to know the Kage is decent upgrade over the top Monarch then.

🙂

Well, between being a cheap arse and the fact that the UK has seemingly run out of stock of 200x57 DHX2 shocks - I bought one that looks in perfect condition off Ebay.

Excited for my first coil shock in nearly 10 years. 😯
