I currently run a dhx5 coil on my 2012 mega. This took the place of the stock monarch Rt3. There seems to be abit of a soft spot on the dhx5 in the first 10mm of stroke movement and at mid compression seems very stiff?? Is it worth a service and tune from tf at nearly £180 all in or upgrade to a monarch plus?? I originally swapped from air to coil as I was blowing through the travel or it was too firm? Any thoughts would be great.
Before you drop a lot of cash on anything try the following:
Increase the pro-pedal by two or three clicks - this should firm up the initial part of the stroke a bit.
Decrease the bottom out control by half to one full turn - this should make the shock less progressive and hopefully sort out the ramp you're feeling at mid compression.
If that works but not quite enough, try reducing the boost valve pressure by 10-20%.
If none of that works come back on here, call me out as being a ****wit and then give Loco a call.

this shows how the leverage rate changes for the mega - it rises, flattens and then falls sharply
dont know what it means in real life but it looks nice...its probably got something to do with what you're feeling in the shock, as the coil is linear but your rate isnt
That would make sense. More leverage in the initial part to help the bike sit into its travel, then it reverts to producing less leverage/becoming more progressive from the middle onwards.Fits exactly what the OP is describing.
Geetee- I've done everything you suggested and the shock and there is already a noticeable difference in the mid compression just taking it for a blast around the block but the beginning 10mm of stroke seems the same even with pro pedal on full???
That doesn't sound right. You should notice a big difference between pro pedal full on and full off. It's good that the bottom out has improved the feel of the mid stroke.
Try increasing the boot valve pressure as this does have an impact on the pro pedal (as well as the bottom out)
If doing that cures the initial 10mm feel but makes the mid stroke feel lumpy then wind off even more bottom out control. Don't be surprised if you don't need much if any bottom out. The leverage ratio looks like it's designed to do that mechanically anyway.
