I currently own a Turner 5 Spot and am thinking of buying a Ibis Mojo SL frame. I know they have the same travel and both share a simular DW link suspesion design. I presume i,ll end up with a slightly lighter bike overall and probably improved climbing but has anyone ridden both bikes and what should i expect to gain from getting a Mojo.
Will it be bling for bling sake or overall a better package.
Test rode the turner and bought the mojo.
I would ask how heavy are you? And realistically are you all about the dh or all about covering distance at speed?
Basically you trade off weight for stiffness between these two. As someone who is ten stone I get away with riding the mojo v hard and only feeling a slight wiggle. I also like covering miles/ climbing etc as much as dh. If your idea of fun is the winch and plummet U may be better off with the turner.
(of course U could look at the sl-R or hd )
Slightly simillar comparison, my mate went from a Ventana El-Ciclon to a Yeti (575 I think it is).
He reckons the Yeti climbs much better, its certainly lighter by a pound or two. Its taken him a few rides to really get in to it, but he flies along on the Yeti, compared to the El-Ciclon.
An Ibis Mojo...jammy bugger. 😉
Titus,
i weigh just under 12 stone. My riding tends to be general trail riding with a fair bit of climbing and fast singletrack descents(not full on DH) + 6 or so trips to Welsh trail centers a year.
My Turner's fine for most jobs, fast on the downs, nibble enough for single track, but even though i can muscle it up most climbs its no whippet.
yeah from what uve said U could certainly enjoy a mojo sl.
as U know it won't be wildly different but will probably drop a couple of pounds.
mine is at 26lbs in full xc build and close to 30 in alps build (36 vans)
Like i said build them light and stiff (ie expensive) and they fly along flats, Ups and downs. It will feel a touch more skittish on the dh and won't hold a line quite as well but it was way better for me. mine also benefited from a push shock tune depending on how fast ur hitting stuff 🙂
I love it and its the perfect bike for me but i do know its limitations and it wouldn't be for everyone.
Get yerself a Pivot Mach 4 or a Morewood Zula, both look awesome a,d probably ride it aswell.
I think deejay off here tried both, maybe he can shed some light on the debate.
