Hello everyone
Could I get suggestions to replace a set of 2009 26"Â RockShox Pike 409 U-Turn Coil, 95mm-140mm forks.
Long story short, they died. RIP forks. And I'd like to keep the bike for a while longer until I can afford a replacement.
If anyone could let me know of replacement forks which are either the same weight but better or lighter but the same quality as the old pikes please.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated
Depends if you need a straight or tapered steerer. That'll narrow down your options somewhat.
I don't think the steerer is an issue.
Mine is staight but you can bottom headsets that have a 1 1/8th cup insert but 1 1/2 caper outer.
Yeah, but is the headtube on your frame tapered?
If not you're stuck with straight steerer forks.
Any recommendations for a straight steerer would be great.
What frame is it?
Marin Wolf Ridge
Nothing?
There's loads of old 426 Pikes out there, which is one step up the range- basically the same thing but with a little more adjustment. The 409 is a bit scarcer just because it was mostly OE spec. The 454 IIRC is the same thing but air sprung
The Sektor Coil RL is probably the closest modern equivalent- I think it's discontinued but is still available new in some places. It's a less sturdy chassis and a little lighter, and has comparable but slightly upgraded damping.
But really, coils just went out of favour so most equivalents will be air, so that means Revelations- same chassis as the Sektor I mentioned but mostly a little posher.
Lastly, do you want the u-turn? Sadly it also went totally out of favour and most modern height adjust forks are more like TALAS- basically a one length fork with a ropey climbing mode, rather than a real multi-length fork like a uturn.
TL;DR- find a tidy old-model Pike if you want equivalence. Or forget about equivalence and get something modern.
I'm not too fussed about height adjustment nor coil.
I just want something which is either better or lighter to replace the forks with.
I think the steerer is the biggest issue for finding a new fork.
Revelations, of 2010ish vintage. Strip the air spring out and put the pike coil in. Small bump is very good and you dont have to put a shock pump on it!
