I was gonna buy some new grease and was looking at the Mobil stuff, some here at ebay cheapest I could find https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOBIL-GREASE-XHP222-LITHIUM-COMPLEX-GREASE-390G-FOR-GREASE-GUN-X-1-TUBE-/142822761702?nav=SEARCHb

has anyone bought some from that seller and is it the proper stuff? it's half the price of everywhere else

also is it the same as marine grease? they are both blue and sticky , marine grease might just be a name for lithium complex greases

It's cheaper here:

I think marine grease is kind of a generic term, with XHP222 being one of several formulas from mobil

Yes and it seemed the proper stuff to me. I'm no expert, but it's thick and very sticky indeed!

I don’t know why I’d never thought of Opie for this. I get all my engine oil and filters etc from them. They’re Cornish and seriously know their stuff. You will not be messed about by them.  Any deliveries I’ve ever had from them have included at least a gallon can of oil but they’ve always been exactly as specified at purchase. No hesitation recommending Opie. 👍

As a thought, they do car club discounts. Mods, any chance of speaking to them for STW?

I didn't get the free air freshener with my last order with them though 🙂

Pretty sure  I'll have one unused in the most recent box that I can send over if you really want it? 😀

O/T, I'm guessing that being in Cornwall where all those boats are they have a fair market for the stuff.  I've seen some lunatic prices on eBay.

I don't know what you're planning on greasing with this stuff, but 'Lanoguard' might be worth a look.  Works as a marine grease but lasts much longer.  It's made mainly of lanolin, not petroleum, so better for the environment too.  As an added bonus it smells like sheep.

What grease gun do you use that has a fine nozzle but can hold the big XHP222 plastic cans?

Morris Lubricants have a new brand ambassador

Yep, I'd want one too, as I can get 222 from work!

Big-assed plastic syringes from eBay and just decant a bit in with a spoon. It's surprisingly easy to do and the end result is a nice, clean syringe that precisely delivers grease, so far less mess. Less than a fiver too.

Obviously, you can get proper cartridge grease guns, but they're all sized for working on tractors, HGVs and container ships. Anything that takes a full cartridge will just be way too bulky for a bike. Likewise, the small threaded ones are ok, but only take tubes of lube, which limits you to overpriced cycling junk.

This was the last one I bought and it works well:

I have a couple of these, stick some XHP222 in one and cheap copper grease in the other

Bit more pricey than I remember but expect them to last forever.  As mentioned above anything that fits the tube is a bit big and agricultural for bike use

Also use the dualco grease gun. Ideal for bike work, filling bearings etc. Mine is filled with Maxima waterproof grease. When I want a thicker more clingy waterproof grease I use Lucas Red n Tacky.

Never seen that Lanoguard before - been trying to switch over all my lubricants (except car engine oil) to environmentally friendly ones and use Green Oil products but have still been using Mobil 222 in my wheel and headset bearings. I think I might give this stuff a try as well as on the farm (sheep) for protecting the trailer and tractor parts as I hate using normal petroleum based greases.
