Planning a up to 3 week trip to Utah/Colorado/Grand Canyon in Oct/Nov, having a week riding in Moad, a week hiking/sight seeing Grand Canyon/Colorado etc then another week riding in a deferent area.

For the Moab week are we better of going DIY booking our own accom & finding the trails or booking through a company like Rim tours?

Any others with experience of a similar trip with our planned itinerary?

Take plenty of water more than you think need.

DIY would be fine and shuttle with Poison Spider as suggested. Car hire will add up but no need for local guiding knowledge like there is in most places.

vaguely related question - I'm out in Sedona in a couple of weeks time and will be trying to diy-guide myself round the trails. Are GPS's like garmins good enough to follow if you load a GPX onto them (ie, will they accurately show where you're going) or are they pretty useless for that sort of thing?

Sedona. We got a map and daily suggestions from Dave at the Fat tire bike shop where we rented from. However, once we had a ride plan, trailforks was actually much more effective as a navigation tool than the os mapping.
Download the area on wifi and crack on.

It was great to get a daily ride suggestion though as it would have been easy to miss the better stuff.

Zinger, Thanks for posting your site. We've done a little of Moab but want to do something else too that takes in a few more destinations so looking at another trip this year.

Moab was great but we are forced to go in the summer (teacher) when it's hot so maybe something a bit higher this time.
