Yep, we're going Speedway Racing next Monday. There's already a list and if you're on it, you're on it (I have it somewhere around here...)

8pm at Astley and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club and Miners' Refuge.

Craig Hall
Lee
Rik
Jason
Tom
Gaz
Steve H
Mr H Spider
Tony
Binners
Daz H
Daz Idle
Barry
Chipps
David H (if he's not spannered still)
Beate (with Sarah H as a ringer)

Duncan's on the reserve list, but I'm sure we can squeeze him in...

http://www.astleycyclespeedway.org.uk

Meanley Rd, Ley Rd, Tyldesley, Astley, Manchester M29 7DW - it's sort of round the back of the cricket club.

Bring £3.50, money for subsidised beer and FULL LEG AND ARM COVERING, FULL FINGER GLOVES and helmet. Skate style shoes recommended. Googles says that the club is open until 9pm - we'll have to check that bit when we arrive. Otherwise we'll decant somewhere for beer afterwards.

Oh and cameras, lots of cameras, and your best heckle... 🙂
THERE WILL BE BLOOD! Ahem...

Almost tempting to drive back from Harrogate for the evening just to watch.

If it were me though I'd opt for Salford. RBH is the pits.

Yay! Looking forward to it. Loads of hilarious self-sabotaging kamikaze carnage and total stupidity, should make a lovely contrast to current affairs. 😀

Is this what doggers leave behind? As opposed to Poo Bags, left by the dog walkers of Stoneclough?

Oooh I'd forgotten all about this. Something tells me elbow pads might be a good idea....

Are we allowed to put spikes on our wheels and carry spears and stuff, just to add to the full picture? 😀

Yes Binners - spears and spiky wheels are allowed - as long as you wear that shiny breastplate and helmet again...

I might have spannered my leg a bit too much for argy bargy, so there's a potential spare place going if I'm not back to normal on Monday.

My place is open to anyone who wants it. Shoulder is still spannered enough that doing this would be a really, really bad idea 🙁

Thanks to a tick, I'm also on antibiotics that mean I can't even do the drinking bit either!

So, that's at least a couple of spare places - so I reckon if you wanted to come but weren't on the original list, then just come on down anyway and pretend to be someone else. It's only £3.50...
Just remember - full arm and leg coverings, full gloves and trainers. Tidy!

Is it possible to come and watch ? I have never heard of Cycle Speedway before and I finish work not far from the track at about 7.30 tommorow.

Only if you dress as a cheerleader - big glittery Pom poms and everything - and have developed an athletic dance routine to cheer us all on 😀

Binners, I'm probably 5ft to the left of that picture! In the crowd, not the dugout.

Yep. The shirts and the girl with the two tone hair were from my era about 10 years ago.

I was also there when a ball took out the section of sign between the word Reds and the phone number.

Happy days.

If I ride my bike down there will there be anywhere to put it where it won't get nicked?

Do we have to sing the national anthem at the beginning?

Hmmm. Just saw the weather forecast. Think I'll drive. Anyone coming from the east, be aware of the M62 closure which might not be clear again by then.

I used to medic at Poole speedway.
That's a good way to get dizzy.
I thought for a moment you were having a go on the bikes. That would certainly end in death.
Then I realised it's push bikes. Less risk of death, though still a possibility.

To be honest Dr P, with the general amount of stupidity on display on your average MNPR, we could probably injure ourselves in a ball pool.

Ball poll?

What an excellent idea!

^ Gah. Ball Pool, not ball pole.

A ball poll is something entirely different.

I will be taking a full face lid tonight, but mostly to keep the rain off.

Well that was a right old laugh!

Steve forgot one of the basic laws of physics. If you're going to try and stuff someone up the inside, with a bit of elbow to elbow argy-bargy, then don't do it to a 16 stone biffa!

Imovable objects, and all that stuff 😀

Daz obviously won - but only by one point... Combativity award goes to Gaz and gazelle-like grace award goes to Binners I reckon 🙂 Steve probably gets the 'trying too hard' award' too 😉

Great evening out. Happy to organise another one in a few months when the scars (physical and mental) have healed. Oh, and £3 a pint or less!

Whilst I remain intact as a result of the cycling the one pint of Holt’s bitter that I had afterwards has utterly destroyed my plumbing. 🙁

Thats Joey Holts for you. I stayed off their delightful 'Crystal' lager.

Wasn't it mad to see a drinking establishment so absolutely bombed out on a Monday night. Hats off to the Welfare of the Miners eh? But at 3 quid for a pint of Star, why wouldn't everyone head for the boozer 😀

I'm guessing that at the weekend.....
