My Bontrager Rhythm Comp rear wheel bit the dust and I was looking for a direct replacement (Cost and Spec). These wheels are difficult to get over here in the U.K so I decided to look at equivalent wheels from other brands. I found "Hope Tech Enduro – Pro 2 EVO" to be in the same price range and a good spec match so I purchased one.

2 months down the line and I am having bearing noise and play in the front wheel. The obvious answer is to go for "Hope Tech Enduro – Pro 2 EVO" in front but checking the specs I find it is heavier than the original bontrager front wheel I currently have (The rear was was slightly lighter). So I was looking at the "Hope Tech XC – Pro 2 EVO" which looks nearly exactly the same but is lighter.

Any reason why this would be a bad thing to do?

Aesthetics, no other reason whatsoever.

That's the setup I run on my 29er hardtail, works well. I kept bending the tech xc on the rear, due to landing sideway too much.

Take the stickers off and no one will be able to tell

Would have thought the enduro one is a bit sturdier, so i suppose it depends how much bashing about you going to be giving it.

Isn't the obvious answer to fit new bearings?

Me and my mate both bought Hope wheels at the same time last year - I went for Enduro rims, he went for XC telling me that there was no need for Enduro rims for what we do. One month later his rear rim was dinged and buckled - could have just been bad luck. But I do love to remind him about it

I'm with Rob Hilton on this. As long as the rim, spokes and hub are black, then take the stickers off and you'll be fine!

Thanks guys 🙂

i did think about bearings but it's seems like a faff and having completely different wheels has been niggling me some what. Maybe it's just a good enough excuse to justify replace it.

I put the enduro on the back as it gets the hardest bashing. I do mostly XC red graded trails and only occasionally a little bit of the black stuff. Although I am going to the french alps in September. I was thinking the XC on the front would be strong enough for what I do.
