I recently borrowed a bike for a long gravel ride. It had 11sp di2 Dura Ace shifters and hydro brakes. It also had a 1x chainset and an xtr 11sp ear di2 mech and an 11sp xt cassette.

The bike was ace, but that level of kit is out of my reach to buy.....so, is it possible to do the same thing with ultegra di2 shifters and a xt rear di2 mech all on 11sp? I would want to run 1x11, so not interested in front mech.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks

So if i have 11sp di2 road shifters, it will shift 11sp mtb mech? And both sets of shifters can do up and down shifts?

yes and yes. My girlfriend has just built up a road bike with dura ace di2 shifters, Easton 1x cranks and XTR rear mech. Works a charm including with sprint shifters and you can play around with which buttons do what via an app on your phone.

I’ve recently done this to my GT Grade, got XT DI2 gearset(rear mech/shifter(will sell on)/chain/di2 display/battery/cables/junction box/cassette) from bikeinn and di2 785 post mount hydraulic brakes/shifters from Merlin for a good price. The di2 display provides charging point and ability to connect phone app and configure/update all the components as required.

Shifters can be configured how you like; so both shift up/down or left shifts up/right down or any other combo. Only other thing required was a battery charger which I got a good deal on from eBay.

First ride out on it today so fingers crossed!

Certainly is with one or two exceptions. I am currently putting a system together using either XT if I use Jones Loops or Ultegra and XT if I use drops. I started out hating the Woodchippers that came with the Fargo but the more I ride them the more I like drops just not these.

Anyway what you need is this

This is the compatibility chart between items across the Shimano Di2 range. Print off the relevant page and highlite the parts you want. It’s not fool proof as this fool bought the wrong battery. I want to use the MT800 Screen as a coms device and this is not compatible with the battery I bought. You don’t need the uber expensive PC connection as the battery charger does that besides charge the battery.

I am picking up items off ebay and mainly the German websites which have random sales of Di2 stuff. See Rose, r2, bike 24.

My spec is XT Crankset, Cassette, FD, RD & Screen with Ultegra Shifters.

There is an interesting write up here

You can get away with just one shifter on a 2x or as per this guy 2 shifters on a 1x.

Any problems feel free to ask and don’t forget to price cables as they are very expensive.
