I have an avid caliper with worns pads and gammy pistons with a avid rotor setup on a hardtail.
I want to replace the caliper and lever with something non avid but I dont have time to faff about with the rotor and pads before I can ride.
I'm familar with the concept of bedding in new pads, my question is can I mix and match worn in pads and rotors without having to clean and rebed or is that just mad?
You'll just have to bed them in again. Should just take a few good stops if the pads and rotor are clean.
What if the pads and rotors are not clean? are we talking noisy and/or slight decrease in performance or are we talking no brake power I might die in a ditch alone kind of freakery?
I swap wheels between bikes all the time - with Shimano, Sram and generic eBay rotors.
As above, you'll need to bed in the new pads if it's a new caliper you're fitting.
If its borrowed from another bike, you'll probably be good to go.
I see, thanks for claarifying, both sets are worn in so I'll go ahead and swap so I can ride tomorrow.
