Palmer is sort of back, isn't he coaching some youth Intense team?

Just don't watch any of the videos of him riding.

Amazing to think that Peaty was racing at the same time she was in her prime, and he's still going (sort of...)

On a YT in Windham? Sounds like a publicity stunt to me. Can't see her doing at all well (although it would be great if she did!), but it might be good for YT now they are selling in USA.

I would love it for her to find the pace... I think old injuries might be the biggest issue though, did she not retire more or less on doctor's orders, too many knocks to the head?

Nah, she was released on time served. I guess she might be out of her probation too if she's allowed to travel?

Listening to the interview on the link above, it sounds like she might just be a teeny tiny bit out of practice.

She is dudebro to the ****ing max though.

id like to see her do well..

but shes said shes ridden 16 times in the last ten years..!!

I dont think she has a chance to be honest.. things have moved on quite a bit..

Palmer did comeback a few years ago.. I think he did 2 world cups? and struggled.. im pretty sure he didnt qualify for the main event in at least one of them if not both..

Publicity stunt or not fair play to her, she's made some bad choices and has come out the other side. Hope she enjoys the course and doesn't get more broken.

She's before my time, but I've read a bit about her - fascinating story, I think people will obviously compare her to Palmer, but I don' think she had that level of god given talent.

I'm not sure the rules on WC entries, I spoke with Neil Donoghue a couple of years ago, this was after BikeRadar Team had folded and before he started racing Enduro so I don't think he was racing at all then, I mentioned I'd put him in my Dirt Fantasy DH league (he was very cheap) as they announced he was going to race certain WCs as a Privateer - he laughed about saying something like that once, but he certainly wasn't racing because no matter how good you are, or were you can't just rock up at a WC and slap your name down, you need some National Level UCI points amongst other things.

Something similar was said about Palmer a couple of years back, maybe 2011 or something that he was going to race certain WCs, but I don't think he ever did.

From a 2013 article:

Giove talks about how she'd love to race one more season despite orders from neurologists that she remain retired from the sport, probation terms that prohibit her from leaving the state, and the fact that she still suffers from chronic headaches and the occasional seizure. She admits that it's an imperfect ambition and knows the sport is dominated by youth – last year's female world champ was 22. Even though she is not actively training for a comeback, Giove insists that on the right course on the right day, she'd be a serious contender. "I have the speed," she says. "They say I shouldn't hit my head ever again, but I'm gonna have to live my life."

I read she needed dispensation from the U.S. national Team(or something) to be allowed to ride as part of them. And it's the wishes of her partner (who I believe has terminal cancer) to see her race a World Cup before she goes.

The main problem she had back in the day was ACC was massively above all the other women she raced against and was so dominant that no one had a chance if she turned up to race.

It's my opinion that whatever she's done in her past, she's served her time and can carry one racing if she wants. And I doubt I'd be too worried about another knock to the head if my other(better) half's dying wish was to see me do something risky.

From the link to the article above...

"[Missy] is sporting a black-and-white Vans mesh hat and a Brooklyn Nets jersey that reveals dark tufts of armpit hair".

Sounds like Ratboy won't be the hairiest critter on course at the weekend...

so its not alright to take drugs in sport, but its alright to sell/transport/distribute it on a massive scale and be welcomed back with open arms?

the interview was cringeworthy

Something similar was said about Palmer a couple of years back, maybe 2011 or something that he was going to race certain WCs, but I don't think he ever did.

2010 he raced Mont St Anne and Windham and in his own words he was scared. Not sure if he qualified, he certainly didn't make the cut for the live feed. 2011 is when Windham was flooded by hurricane Irene.

...but its alright to sell/transport/distribute it on a massive scale and be welcomed back with open arms?

But now it's completely harmless and legal and earning astronomical sums of tax on legitimate sales so why the hypocrisy? The DEA owe her an apology.

I met her in a pub in Fort William, she's chatty, down to earth and quick witted. Was a fan before I met her and after seeing the road her life took and an apparent turnaround I have even more admiration 🙂

She's fantastic, one of the great characters of the sport, saw her in Fort Bill years ago too but was too shy to say hi. Think she is riding a rented bike for this race!

In June 2009, Giove was arrested in Wilton, New York on charges of conspiring to possess and distribute 384 pounds of marijuana. Giove pled guilty to the charges.[2] On November 23, 2011, she was sentenced to the time served, six months of home detention and five years of supervised release.[

I forgot about her. That was remarkably lenient.

She's been supplied with a Tues by YT

she's probably just looking for a payday

Or her wife has terminal cancer and her dying wish is to see Missy race a world cup one last time.

If that's the case then she'd be better going back to selling some weed than battling for a middle of the pack placing at a World Cup race.

Jeezo. I remember Missy from the telly when I was wee, and while it was impressive enough seeing a 43yr old woman riding like that, I didn't know she was doing it for her wife.

"Unfortunately, my girl got cancer. You know that's a f*cking scary thing. It's not a small situation and we'll get through it. We kinda went through some things that maybe she'd like to do in life, you know, and one was to see me race a World Cup. I was like, 'really?' I was like, 'OK!'"

She was something like 35 seconds off the winning time. I'm no race officionado, but isn't that like a geolgoical epoch behind in DH race terms?

35 secs is fairly normal in women's DH. There's a huge gap between the very good but also rans and the top ten podium chasers.

There was a crash too, though, and she was already carrying an injury from her crash during qualifying (or was it pratice?).

Her run starts at about 16.15 in the replay.

@Northwind - They didn't show the full run. Just parts, should be up on the replay though. She was pretty loose!!

Cool to see!

She was never going to trouble the podium but on a borrowed bike and no training I think she did well. Also consider Rachel Atherton won by almost 10 compared to 2nd place.

meh, rachael was 10s ahead of 2nd place !

and Missy clocked the 3rd highest speed of the day 58kph, ive never been that fast on the road let alone on a DH course

sounds like shes still got the skills, just not the fitness, at 43 and 10+ years off the bike shes amazeballs imho
