Hi guys, im tempted for one of the above units, I wouldn't mind feedback of people's actual experience of owning one though. Been looking for a while and weighing up against a garmin 810. I'm not too fussed abou all the stats, but strava is a must (its the law?) also the mapping does tempt me, I go away to Europe and have found it difficult planning rides as I simply cant buy maps for all the areas I visit (PAPER MAPS)So, what do people think about the mio?? I hear battery life isn't too great, could I carry an external battery to charge it for long rides?? Any feedback would be great, cheers.
anyone own one??
have a 500 got because came preloaded with openstreetmap and this includes shared paths and cycle lanes (I live in Aus')
good things are can set up bike profiles and though i may be affronted to have call my adventure racer/cx stylee a hybrid the mio will pick to include gravel roads in the route and does a good job of keeping me off main roads, turn by turn instructions good. In the mtb profile will find routes at trail centre ok. The find a ride feature is actually good.
downsides are linking with pc - the software hardly works very frustrating - the wifi link works fine but sometime on holiday don't have. Battery life is poor - been dumped after a few hours when i thought fully charged - can't use for all day rides - been told need to turn off cadence to improve battery life - also get a regular and random "system problem - need to restart message" which takes about 5 minutes to sort and one day I'll just hurl into a traffic lane
don't use strava so can't comment - works well with ridewithgps
not reliable enough in my opinion
Bought my 505 second hand and its been ok.
With all sensors on battery didn't last long.
Once I turned off sensors, cadence, heart rate etc.I got 8 hours on it for a Welsh Audax.
Turn by turn directions are fantastic and had no problem with transfering info to the laptop with wi-fi.
The only issue I would say is with water ingress.
A ride I did in the pouring rain the distance went a bit awol.
Still got me home but took a day or so to dry out and screen to work properly.
Thanks,
Max
Bought one, tried it out, sent it back and bought an 810.
Depends what you want it for, for navigation mainly it was better than the garmin, the display was more interesting, and the surprise me function was cool.
BUT, for specific training HR zones and the like it wasn't as good, it wouldnt' even tell your HR zone unless you were in a HR zone workout mode, didn't like that.
Seeing as I don't do much exploring the Garmin is much better for me, and now they seem to have the sorftware sorted I'm glad of my choice.
The new wahoo one looks a good bet too.
Oh i'm confused which to go for, Really fancy the surprise me option, I see the garmin edge 1000 has this feature, but its a fair bit more. Whats people's views on the garmin's, both the 810 and 1000 compared to the mio??
