Today, i've been really enjoying this (soz if this is old info, but it's delightful stuff to my inner child 😀 )

How long do you want it for?
Can someone explain the keyring thing to me please?
Only about two and a half years.
How long do you want it for?
Quite some time. Maybe forever.
Can someone explain the keyring thing to me please?
I have a huge erection just thinking about it to be honest.
Can someone explain Mint Sauce to me please?
I really don't get it. At all.
I believe it was an opportunity for dead-eyed chickenshit conformists to identify with something they perceived as left field. Of course the true irony was that it was just a bit crap.
Whimsical / philosophical / funny
...pick any two...
Oh yes and of course the best thing about the keyrings was watching the sycophants get stitched by their hero. Delicious.
Yeah me too
Dont understand any of it.
Was there a bike manufacturer involved?
Possibly the funniest thread on here
Love Mint Sauce.
Liked the strips before Sheepgate and still like them now.

Wow.
You sound like a real charmer.

You bought one didn't you? 😆

No.

Struggling with this one.
Care to explain it for us?
Why does liking a cartoon sheep make you a
?dead-eyed chickenshit conformist

Compared to what?
How is it 'a bit crap'?
The greatest cartoon in the history of cartooninging.
If you don't "get" whimsy, aren't lifted by Summer and countryside or are never sensitive to the seasons, you won't "get" it.
Also, you're probably a bit of a cock. Or yossarian...

You can get all that stuff and not like mint sauce woppit. I would say my connection with the countryside and seasons is as powerful as anyones, I challenge you to prove otherwise. Cos I know proof matters to you.
Woppit you've got massively offended and flounced out of threads before due to me calling you a hypocrite (justifiably IMO) - now you're saying I'm a cock because I don't get a fairly odd cartoon about a mountain biking sheep?
Ok then.
Ooh. Sicilian defense, eh?
Mr Woppit - MemberOoh. Sicilian defense, eh?
Nah, he just thinks you're a cock.
He has a point.
I am justifiably rebuked. Please forgive me.
I love Mint Sauce. The comic was a fundamental element of my formative teenage years, and I'm very glad he's still going. When I got back into mountain-biking properly again after the best part of a decade away, Mint was about the only thing I recognised in an MBUK full of scary stuff like disc brakes and body armour and 160mm travel forks.
Haters are, of course, completely entitled to their opinions.
I wouldn't say I'm a hater, it just leaves me fairly nonplussed.
If you're a dad, I challenge you to read "Thanks for the bike Dad" without an attack of whimsy.
Non-plussed or plussed. I'm not sure our ovine philosopher-poet hero will be troubled.

No, just wondering why Summers' visits are so fleeting these days (remember a month ago?)
Aaah Mint Sauce. Coincided with my getting into mountain bikes, just seemed to sum it all up very nicely. Brake boosters, PooBahs, dart/smokes. Sigh.

Challenge accepted.
I read Mint for about 10 years and never got it. The nearest I was to getting it was the fridge suck episode. I never understood the song lyrics in each one and have never once guessed what song it is.

My original copy of 'learning to ride' now resides in my Dad's pocket . . . he passed away 9 years ago.
Thanks for the bike Dad! 😥 😀

Yep, you got me!

Whether it's a case of "getting it" or just understanding how he is such an ordinary being, with yearnings for greater things, hampered by the ordinary around him. I suppose it's like any art... different pieces move different people in different ways.
Are they song lyrics or just his musings?
I read in an interview once that they were song lyrics. I guess itsjust a bit too leftfield for me.
I'm still impatiently awaiting a Jo Burt/Silent Hobo collaboration..
I never understood Mint Sauce. I would read it, then read it again, but it still wouldn't register. I don't hate it; I just don't get it. At all.
Maybe its a British thing as I'm American...
Isn't it time for a mint sauce book? 😉

Nah I'm exactly the same. I just really don't understand what it's trying to say or any of the jokes. Maybe I iz jus fick?
I've got about a 50% hit rate but just occasionally one really, really gets me. "Thanks for the bike dad" being one.
And I'd totally buy a collected Mint Sauce book, if it was good quality images and as long as absolutely no part of the manufacturing, inventory control, cash handling or dispatch was handled by Jo Burt. Good quality prints would be good too.
I'm 99% sure that I have one of those Mint Sauce stem caps somewhere...
awesome, amazing seeing the ones from 1992 onwards when I was 14 and subscribed to MBUK, can remember so many of them! I'd buy a book of them.
Yep, found it. Stem cap w/bolt and packaging.
Teeny little sheep with words about taking the long way...wait, wasn't that Supertramp's lyrics?
...this pushed my button, too 😀
I've got a 'mint' copy of the Eternal Reek of Damp Wool sat in my bedroom drawer - one day it will be worth a fortune - or perhaps not!
I have only ever read Mint Sauce when I forgot how much of a crock of cack MBUK is and ended up buying a copy. Occasionally it's struck a chord, so the "ReSauce" link above maybe a way in.
(See what I did there? I'll get my coat. 😳 )
It can be good - the artwork is excellent, and when it's focused and funny (the 'is my bike okay' and the escaping lungs strips spring to mind) it's great. Too much whimsy (aka self indulgent bedwetting) most of the time though.
Nah I'm exactly the same. I just really don't understand what it's trying to say or any of the jokes. Maybe I iz jus fick?
That's how I feel about the Daily Mash, except there's not even any nice artwork to look at with that.....
The two dad ones always make me well up a bit. 🙁
I'm a fan and I'd love a big glossy book but I'm in this camp.

I wonder whether Future hold the rights. I may try harassing them to publish something.
I wonder whether Future hold the rights.
I suspect not or there'd be an awful lot more 'stuff' available.
I think Jo said the originals are kept under the bed in his spare room or something.
Just spent lunch scouring for Mint Sauce clothing; fancy diplaying how old/stupid I am this year.
Gort lost in a world of nostaligia; for me it was the fact that it was how I saw cycling back then - it WAS sunny when I cycled during holidays and cycling was the first time in my life that I really did start to appreciate nature/beautiful things etc, sometimes just dropping the bike and sitting in a field - just like the cartoon...that was all part of it.
Anyhow, I am still am no closer to understanding whether it's still going, whether there is antything produced in the way of clothing, what the hell has happened to MBUK and the "site" (it's like something from when the internet first started) and probably will just have to put up with some dull fox stuff...
Oh, and bump.
Harps back to a fun time in my life when all there was was riding, surfing and fun. Work was there to buy bikes, boards and hideously bright clothing.
Never met Me Burt so cannot comment on the man, but his cartoons made me smile.
Bring on the coffee table anthology.
I loved it. As Roger says, harks back to simpler times of endless rides without all the pressures of real life. Once I reached 14 and grew too old for MBUK, Mint was the only part that I missed.
I like mint because the artwork and sentiment appeals to me. I liked the key ring but mine broke so I wanted another, they weren't available and hence was born the anyone got a key ring thing, someone sent me theirs gratis so it all worked out in the end!
Yossarian, schadenfreude is an ugly, ugly thing.

so true.
Never really read the cartoons....the few that I've seen were pretty meh. The mint sauce keyring thread and was hilarious!!! The end results really were guff and ludicrously expensive too!!
I grew up riding the South Downs in the late 80's early 90's when those bikes Mint and gang rode were in vogue.
I still picture the perfect ride in the same hues as the cartoon, and can visualise where along the ridge most of the views are inspired from.
I've got the Eternal Reek of Damp Wool at home, got Jo to sign it too
