New bike is 27.5, so looking for a tyre as good as the Minion, great tyre and cheap as chips, anything else out there that even comes close to performance and value.

Err, tyre as good as the Minion, would be the Minion. Comes in 650b size.

Price and selection is another matter, but hey *everything* is 650b and 26 is dead supposedly so that would be why err, there are way more 26" Minions and much cheaper 😉

Yep just seen the minion DH2 650b for nearly fifty quid! no thanks, cheers for the Butcher control suggestion, looks like a winner, have actually used one before doh!, my bike only came in the 27.5 flavour, otherwise I would have stuck with 26 being an old school luddite.

Conti Trail King ?
Wasn't expecting much from the unfashionably skinny 2.2 wire bead jobbies on my new 5 but have been pleasantly surprise.

Margic Mary on the front and Minion DHF (or high roller) on the back. Tons of trip all year round.

Another Minion.

...or HR2
...or new Minion DHR2
...or Butcher
...or Trail King (2.4)
...or Magic Mary

All make good fronts in my opinion.

If this is happening, then +1.

Or buy from acycles above - got my last batch from them - HR2 and Minion DHR2 for £50 or so.

Butcher is the closest ime

Same characteristics/feel as Minion but true to size. lighter and slightly lower profile. Cheaper as well although both of mine have had slight eccentricities. Shoulder lugs have a tendency to give up when part worn. good back tyre when worn

Mmm. Butcher is great but not available in all the compounds and versions you might want.

To those suggesting the Minion in 650b, you are missing the point, there is a massive jump in price (£15 on average) compared to 26.

PS Rickon that is a good deal if they can deliver the goods, cheers.
