So I recently bought a Maxxis Minion DHR II DoubleDown (DD) 27.5 x 2.3 tyre for the rear of my bike. On only the second ride, I ran over some moderately rocky terrain (no rock garden, just a trail with a few rocks poking through the dirt) at fairly brisk pace (I'd say around 20mph) and one of the side knobs just tore off, exposing a hole all the way through to the inside of the tyre. I was running it tubeless at about 25psi. I was told by my guide that he experienced the exact same problem. Is this a common issue? I love the feel of the tyre, but this has left me really disappointed...

just onto my second one and although i have had a few small holes in the previous one (that sealed up) never managed to tear a side knob of like that. it was well worn and had some little tearing around the edge of the knobs but nothing more than i would expect with the use it had had. living in the lakes it had seen plenty of rocky trails.

Not torn off but partially torn and ripped to a punctured flat mess of latex Jizz. It's patched but not remitted as I tried my repaired gashed DD Aggressor and then went walopped that on Ullswater shore so that ruptured, but held up in a prolapsed kind of way.

It's not Maxxis DD it's me. But I think I just want old school dual ply tyres sgain.

Not got the DD, but no issues with the EXO 3C compound. Thought I might suffer some damage recently at a Gwydir on the Dragons back, but nothing.

Again, not the DD but the exo 3c. Sidewalls seemed to be made of tissue paper and there were cracks under all the tread blocks on the edges of the tyre, so I’m guessing only a matter of time before it started shedding. Hardly ridden really.  It’s in the bin now.

I find the dual compound Maxxis tyres hold up far better on the back than the 3C ones.

My Capra came with EXO 2.4 HRII F and R, they did the same after a few rides, got them warrantied, sold, and bought decent tyres.
