Ive been using Hans dampf's pretty much since they came out, from 26" and now on all my 29ers. I know a lot of people don't get on with them but they seem to work for me.

I need a new front tyre as this dampf is cracking and the side lugs are tearing off. Im tempted to try a Minion DHF as they seem the go to tyre.

Being the most expensive im guessing the Folding 3C Maxx Terra EXO TR is the one to get as a front?

Thanks

thats what I'm going for but in 27.5, though I'm unsure of the difference between 2.5WT and 2.6 options? the 2.6 Is listed as lighter on the maxxis website? Anyone know?

Aye, indeed, go for that. If you can, the 2.5WT flavour in 29" for added something or other, more power etc. 🤦‍♂️

I went from a Hans dampf to this tire, and it is quite remarkably better in almost every way (also put a 2.4WT DHR on the back).

Its just "quieter", both audibly and how it goes about its tenacious, grippy, business. Best upgrade I've made for years.

Generally the more acronyms the better, with Maxxis. 3C for sure on the front, Exo is pretty much standard now on minions I think, and TR just makes them a wee bit better for tubeless- tbh standard maxxi are usually as good as anyone else's tubeless ready though.

I really like the 2.5, though mine is standard not WT- sure it's heavier and draggier but it's just so damn trustworthy, which imo is the most important thing a tyre can ever be.

Alternatively Dual compound f&r is absolutely fine if you aren't craving the ultimate grip and they last yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaarrrs

A DHF has a far better tread patern design than the Ham Blampf which looks like it was designed by a child in a dark room with a sharpie so you don't need to rely so much on super soft rubber.

I don't mind a soft/medium compound Dampf on the back - rolls ok and does break loose, but predictably. Try an ultrasoft Magic Mary on the front - they are awesome

Another vote for Mary with the winter coming up. Don't get me wrong, I like my 2.5wt, it's great in the dry, but the Mary is much more capable in the mud and slip imho. Bloody draggy though.

Sure but that's a bad comparison, the shorty 2.5 is a direct match for the mary and it's give and take between those 2

Just fitted a 2.6 Mary, by eck its a purposeful looking bit of rubber, and it fits in the pike with mudhugger too.

Reckon I'd mibbe even sneak a 2.8 in there....

Does that even turn in the fork?

Loads of space. I've had 2.8 tyres in there before.

Anyone seen a 26 x 2.8 Minion DHF in the UK yet? Maxxis told me end of 1st quarter 2018 but that seems to have been slightly incorrect.

I do have a magic Mary but it's overkill for me which is why I normally stick with the dampf. I may stick the Mary on when the conditions get tricky.

Before I order the minion how do maxxis size up these days? Is their 2.5 a schwalbe 2.35 equivalent?

I am using some wide 35mm (I think) LB carbon rims so not sure on whether to go 2.3 or 2.5

Ta

Deffo 2.5 WT on those rims. More or less equivalent to 2.35 Schwalbe, yeah

Thanks. I'll go for the WT 2.5 if I can find one.

Bike-discount.de is my normal go to for tyres but they seem to be a bit thin on the ground and can't see the WT version.

Can anyone recommend me somewhere who has stock of the 29x2.5 WT?

@J273

When I was buying mine in 27.5" flavour CRC seem to intermittently stock them. The 2.5wt givs a much more confidence inspiring profile on 30mm rims than the 2.3 it replaced.

Struggling to find the same as the op along with an Aggressor for the rear. Can only find Minion DHF 2.5 WT in DH casing which weigh a ton.

Just picked up a 29 Minion DHF 2.5WT 3C Exo TR along with an Aggressor 2.5WT from High on Bikes if you're still looking?

Minion dhf 2.5wt in Exo / 3c is great as a front tyre. Good allrounder - it was superb in the summer and passable in the winter on trail centre type trails. I’d say it struggle slightly when it sees proper mud on steep hairpins etc. I ran one from last September ish time until about 3 weeks ago. Put in a Magic Mary 2.35 addix soft snakeskin to give hat a go over the winter. So far it seems to manage ok on hardpack trail centre trails but it’s better on the steep slippery stuff I’m personally not very good at. It almost feels like cheating on that kind of terrain.

My MM 2.35 is a little smaller than my Dhf 2.5wt but with much bigger knobs on 😳
