As above
Anyone used one as a rear tyre? I have a chunky monkey on the front and a Hans Dampf on the back. Don't like the Hans Dampf at all, really unpredictable when its a bit wet.
Or anyone recommend a decent rear tyre?
Riding around Calderdale so a mixture of everything
Cheers

Dhf is a decent rear tyre, the minion dhr2 is even better but both are leagues ahead of a hans dampf.

DHR2 is the best I've used on the back for mixed conditions. Rolls pretty well and grips and brakes better than HR2 or DHF.

Another vote for the DHR2.

2.3 DHR II goes well with the CM to be honest if they Smorgasbord was 2.3 I think it would work much better Than in its current form.

I too can recommend the dhr2 as a rear tyre.
I used to run dhf front and rear as didn't get on with the original dhr. But the dhr is a big step up from the original dhr.

I've known people run the DHF backwards on the rear. More grip?

Is it draggy like the HR2 though? I'm running HR2 on the rear at the moment and love it for grip and braking, but on the flat it does drag a lot. Don't mind it so much in the bouncy bike but looking for something with more flat out roll but good grip for the hard tail. Currently running Ardent, but they wear quicker and are getting hard to get in 26 now.

I think Sam Hill ran DHF at the rear, back in the day. When asked why: "they don't slow me down if I brake".

Take of that what you will...

A DHF front and rear is my favourite tyre combination! A bit draggy for general trail riding, but offers oodles of cornering grip and comes into its element when pointing downhill. A very good all rounder weather and condition-wise in my opinion.

I ran one for quite a while out back and it was very good.

Running a DHF on the rear of my Spicy, much prefer it to the HD I was running before. And it ain't fallen apart either

I run a DHF on the rear of both my bikes.

Get plenty of grip on the steep rooty stuff that I ride - both climbing and descending, in all conditions.

Run a High Roller on the front.

I did have Hans Damp Trail Star Snake Skin both ends on my winter/DH wheels. Amazing grip on everything. Picked up a lot of mud on the rear and unfortunately cracked most of the knobs on the back tyre <450 miles. It was great on snow and ice too. Basically good on every surface except wet gloopy fire road climbs... draggy.

I read up on everything available and the Maxxis DHRII came out as one of the very best rear tyres every made so I got one for my lighter summer wheels in TR EXO Dual Compound 62/60A so that it shouldn't wear out quite as quickly as a Hans rear did.

I rode the DHRII in full on rain on wet rocks at full speed and it was great, no issues at all. It was also very good in the dust too. Yes... UK weather in May 🙂

I rode it last weekend at The Marin trail for Enduro race practice and having ridden the Hans rear there a few weeks ago and the DHRII there now I was left a bit miffed at the DHRII's lack-of grip. The conditions were slightly damp and drying up so slightly greasy I'd say. On a couple of the steeper sections it was all over the place. It felt like it would not brake at all. It was full on... I've got no rear grip... I'd better just hit the right line and hope it works. There was no option to slow down or control speed.

I like to know that I can slow down a touch on a steep section even if I don't need to. It's a confidence thing.

I'm almost considering getting a new HD back on the rear even if I trash it in under 2 months of riding. The extra grip and confidence might be worth it.

Going to continue with the DHRII's out back for a few more rides before I decide what to do. Hope it was just a one off or one of those sketchy moments that wouldn't matter what tyre you were on.

I PR'd everything... not being able to brake much is definitely quicker!

I used to use a dhf 2.35 maxxpro on the back but found it pretty unpredictable- it's not so much the amount of grip, it's the way it slides when it lets go, less managable than most I thought. It's actually a pretty similiar tyre overall to the butcher I mostly use on the back, but the butcher slides beautifully, regains grip nicely, all sorts of good stuff.

Works a treat all year round until it gets really, really mucky. Even then that's only an issue with climbing which is boring, do I don't care about that.

I will admit now that I'm a Maxxis fan. But I would recommend a DHF for front or rear use. The only time I don't run one on the back is for XC stuff. I've never got on with the DHR (although the Missus liked them on the back of her DH bike). They roll well and are predictable. As said above Sam Hill used to run them. Personally I think they're the best all round gravity tyre out there. I usually run a 60a 2.35 on the rear and a 2.5 Super a Tacky on the front.

Currently waiting for the Minion Semi Slick to come out to replace the gods awful Nobby Nick I'm running on the rear at the moment for XC duties.
