Hi Folks,
I treated myself to a new set of rims, these are coincidentally UST, not why I bought them but thought I may as well give the whole tubeless thing a bash.
So the issue is, I like to run super tacky Minion DHs on my trail bike, in 2.35.
BUT, I can only find the minions in UST in the 2.5". I run the 2.5s on my DH bike but don't need them for my trail bike, so what's the closest thing available in UST form?
I know it's not a massive difference, and that maxxis tyres are actually fairly slim for the size, but i'm looking for an alternative regardless.
Suggestions?
Cheers
First of all, why change? UST in general is a pretty specific option, sort of like dualplies- has its place but not for everything and often not the right choice.
Your old Minions will most likely go tubeless very well- Maxxis have quality beads and lots of rubber in them so they generally fit and seal pretty easily.
If you want to change, then Minionish + Tubeless = Specialized Butcher. Tubeless ready, not as soft as a supertacky so not as grippy on wet rock or hardpack but a better tread pattern so quite often grippier on soft things. 2.3 is the size of a maxxis 2.5 but without most of the downsides- faster and lighter. Not as tough, though, thinner sidewalls so not for you if you're hard on sidewalls...
As per above. My old non-UST Minions and High Rollers used to work great on Mavic UST rims.
There is now a 2.3 minion tubeless ready. I run them, come up bigger than the original 2.35 minion - but not as big as a 2.5
available in 3C, even better than supertacky.

I'm running a Schwalbe Magic Mary tubeless (tubeless-ready, so you need sealant), very impressed. I've run Minion 2.5s before and the MM compare very well.
Thanks for the input, tubless ready would also work, already have the stans goo actually.
Is it worth putting the 'goo' in UST tyres anyway?
Thanks for the input, especially freeridenick, I see the 2,3 are new, must be how I missed it as i've been searching for the 2.35in!
Ta
wideboy, they have only been out a few months. Very impressed so far. go up really easy TR and just a touch bigger than the original minion which I always thought was a tad slim.
