I've not tried it on the rear myself, but some bike brands actually spec them front and rear so should be fine.

I use a standard 2.3 DHF on the rear and a 2.5WT DHF on the front, works fine even in gloopy slippy mud.

Thank you for replies so far,
Onzadog, which brands spec them in the rear?

Not a WT but I’ve used 2.5 minions dhf back and front as alps tyres for years, if I went to a wider wheel set I’d use the WT happily.

Canyon spec the 2.5 wt as a rear o some of their bikes.

People have been running DHFs front and rear since they came out 10+ years ago. It works well

Focus spec the 2.5wt dhf on the rear of the sam. It works pretty well as a rear tyre.

I have a 2.5 DHF on the front of my Chromag with a 2.3 in the back.

Can't fault it as an all rounder set up. I'd run a 2.5 in the back if their was clearance. Clearance was tight with a 2.4 ardent (same casing, smaller knobbles) and the 2.5 DHF is a big tyre that comes up big on a wide rim.

My ibis hd4 came with them at both ends. It's worked well

I use the 29 2.5 DHF both ends but only because there was no dh carcass dhr2. It does work but IMO the dhr2 is just plain better (it's what I use for the trailbike). It rolls similarly, it has better braking, and also when it does slide it's basically lovely, you know when and where it's going to do it whereas the dhf can be a little bit more independent thinking.

To be fair, that became popular because the old DHR was crap, I think that's still part of the reason it happens today even though the dhr2 is fantastic.

I've just put one on my Sentier as the 2.6 Maxxis Ikon it came with is a bit sketchy now it's getting wet and muddy... seems to work well, and it sizes up very close to the 2.6 Minion DHF on the front.

I've WT 2.5 DHFs on my Solaris Max 29er hardtail; slightly firmer 'dual compound' on the back and MaxTerra on the front; I find them excellent, both in the woods of Dunkeld/ Scolty/ Drumtochty/ Sidlaws whatever, plus up on proper mountains too. All good so far.
