I want to save space and carry a minimalist type tube only for emergencies. I run 2.8 27.5 tyres. Tubolito only do their "S-Tubo" line in a 27.5 size up to 2.4. Will it inflate a 2.8?

I would expect it will. If you've got a tube you'll never need it anyway - it's only when you're not carrying one that you need one 🙂

They're not as stretchy as a normal tube so you may have problems, plus a few folk have had issues with the S  version. I'd go with the slightly heavier MTB Plus version (I carry two on bikepacking trips). Also be aware that normal inner tube patches won't work with them. They sell their own patches, though they are apparently just Mcnett Tenacious Tape (which can be bought cheaper).

I'd be wary of over inflating Tubolito tubes. They aren't latex so don't really stretch. They aren't particularly robust either, the one time I used mine it would slowly deflate and needed reinflating every hour or so. Fine for getting you back to the car, slowly.

Edit: mine is the "robust" MTB version. The "S" version is the one with the whole valve that unscrews from the tube.

Is the bigger MTB version still significantly smaller than a standard tube? If not, it wouldn't make much sense to bother with.

Two are smaller/lighter than one standard tube.

Yes it is, just checking I'd say half the volume of a standard inner tube. My scales say 85g vs 190g so just under half the weight as well.

Maxxis ultralite tubes are just thin butyl ie. will stretch to a 27.5" x 2.8 no bother
I wouldn't run them as my everyday tubes but as a light emergency spare they're great.
they're about 100g a piece and two take up the same space as one ordinary tube.

CRC have them on offer for £3.40

If one of you ****s buys the lot like you do with PSAs do the right thing and send me a couple for when I actually need them 😉
